I'm sure most will remember him from his ITV 4 days. He was a builder? who was basically a journeyman ended up winning Southern Area and then beating Chas Symonds in a good battle then beating Nadeem Siddique who at that time was looking to go to next level he then came in at a few days or even a days notice IIRC to fight Jon Thaxton. He was being used as a tune up but he didn't read the script and shocked the British Boxing Scene defeating him over 8 rounds. He then went on to fight John O'Donnell in a brave challenge which he ended up breaking his nose and then fought Adan Amar for the English title on undercard of Froch-Dirrell and lost convincingly. He was a limited fighter but so game and was improving and really got a following around those times. I expected him to have a rest from the game for a few months but that Fight against Amar was his last bout. Well looks like he left Boxing behind to venture into MMA. Thought i'd update you guys cos i remember he won many of us as fans around 09. He was as game as they come but cursed with short arms and not very much pop in his punches. I don't think he would have been that succesful. Nice to see a boxer win a cage fight though!
I remember him. Did well against Thaxton though Thaxton was going up in weight and was majorly on the slide by then. I was also there to watch the Amar fight bit of a funny one that. He dropped Amar just before the end of a round then retired on his stool a few seconds later I think. Very strange :huh He is the type of fighter I would like to see on the undercards not the most skillful but would at least be in a decent entertaining scrap.
Yeah he retired on stool your right. I thought he lost on points for some reason..have no clue why. Adan Amar hasn't boxed since either...
I sat next to a very smug Danny Flexen at the Glover v Thaxton fight, I can't remember if he had a bet on Glover (possibly unethical in his position) or if he'd just told everybody within earshot that Glover would win. Either way, it was a great scrap to be there for.
I saw him fight O'Donnel and Amar, and as pointed out his short arms and lack of pop really hurt him, infact he was tagging O'Donnel with the right hand repeatedly, but it had no effect whatsoever. Dont remember him dropping Amar, but he did get a bit of a pasting and was spent by the time he was pulled out. The chanting that was going on during the fight was a disgrace tho. Those in attendance will confirm.
The chanting was appalling. Some of the worst racism I have seen in my entire life. I thought it was going to kick off right next to me there were loads of younger Asian lads and middle aged white blokes tussling by me. I was disgusted
Probably the wisest move by a Hennessey fighter post ITV4. He wasnt going to be getting the ITV4 paydays again and it looks like that MMA event is fairly well attended. Probably getting paid about the same amount as he would be if he was boxing on undercards or small hall shows but the opposition seems less than stellar.
Maybe I'm always very smug, did you consider that?! I had a bet with John Rawling and he'd given me odds of 7-1 on Glover. I bet a fiver and he still owes me £35. But I got to be smug which is obviously priceless.
