Uh, looks outside the box. This isn't being bias. Holyfield was prone to getting in brawls, espescially in his prime. Holy can't afford to get in a slugfest with Marciano for a sustained period of time because Marciano consequently had a slightly larger build (not taller) and was a harder puncher. Holyfield has been repeatedly hurt by guys that don't hurt as hard as Rocky, for this exact reason. So i give Rocky a shot.
A 5'7 swarmer who was far more defensively capable than Marciano ever was,and one who was fighting a man who had only eleven fights under his belt at that point. No coincidence that Qawi was destroyed the second time around.
:-( Do you even know Evander Holyfield? Are we talking about the same fighter? I am HOLYFIELD HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK!, so I know about Holy. I can tell you are one of those people who base Holyfield's prime on the Qawi/Cooper/Foreman fights.... and that's NOT what prime Holyfield fought like. Although Holyfield was in his prime in those fights, that was not him fighter at his best. His best was the Dokes fight for example. He was elusive in his prime, and HARDLY EVER brawled when fighting at his best. His side-to-side jumpting and circling of his opponents was one of his best skills. Fighters struggled to land effective shots on him when he fought like this. Stop basing Holy's prime on his most popular fights. You should actually watch some of the lesser-known fights to learn more about him. INSTEAD OF TALKING OUT OF PURE IGNORANCE. Btw, don't argue with me, because, first of all, I won't listen. Secondly, I know more than everyone on the forum about The Real Deal. :hi: HOLYFIELD HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK! :yep
I have watched plenty of Holyfield. I don't see how those fights weren't his prime. So, don't make assumptions that you don't know. asswhipe. He may have been a little young but this is all your ****in' opinion. by you saying "Oh, don't argue", that kind of kills the point of a boxing forum doesn't it. You're picking and chosing Holyfield's performances. Holyfield may have looked better against Dokes but Dokes was getting old at the time and wasn't the same fighter. at least I didn't see the same speed that he had showed before. It was basically Dokes' last chance. I think Cooper and Foreman were better fighters then Dokes was at the time. Fact is, some time during the fight, Holy would engage with Marciano in a brawl, and it wouldn't be pretty. I still think he would recuperate but that's besides the point. You're acting like he's just gonna blow Rocky out
No Holyfield detractor ever mentions that one. They also conveniently forget/discount that Holyfield-Qawi was Holyfield's 11th or 12th pro fight. Holyfield-Marciano would be a bruising affair, though, no doubt.
I would take Holyfield on points in an intense brutal fight!! I think Holyfield would be just slick enough and durable enough to whether the storm that Marciano would bring, I don't see him being felled by one punch late like Walcott, in fact I see Holyfield as a bigger better version of Ezzard Charles who we all know gave Rocky hell.. I see Holyfield using a slug and go style all night and he would use his reach and size advantage and know when to engage Rocky and when to retreat.. I don't think he would KO Rocky but he will land enough pretty combos and score enough points in my eyes to earn the Decision..
I think Holyfield is better, Rocky is tougher. Will and want is a wash. Handspeed and footspeed is DEFINITELY Evander. Punch is definitely Rocky. Styles favor Rock, gifts favor Evander. Pick 'em fight.
With all due respect to both men, this could have the makings of a brawl greater than Frazier vs Quarry I. The heavyweight, performance enhanced Holyfield at his best could stop Marciano inside 10 on cuts. I think Marciano would get the better of Holyfield in the later rounds and stop him. The difference, Marciano is a 15 round fighter, Holyfield is a 12 round fighter. Stamina would be the key here unless Holyfield can take Marciano out before the middle rounds. I don't see that happening. People need to give some respect here to the only undefeated heavyweight. No blown-up cruiserweight is stopping Marciano, even if he's bigger, or the better boxer with quicker hands.
And people need to start giving respect to a guy who was a far more proven entity than Marciano was.His durability was tested greater than Marciano's ever was, against bigger and much petter punchers than the likes of which Marciano faced in his career. And when was Holyfield's stamina ever in question during his peak years? Those fifteen rounds against Qawi were fought at a greater pace than Marciano ever sustained. That was the one and only time Holyfield ever had to fight that long, and he passed with flying colours. Holyfield is far too versatile, far too diverse a puncher, and far too tough and durable a fighter for somebody like Marciano.Holyfield has far too many options at his disposal to deal with somebody as limited and basic as Marciano. And these brawling tactics that would supposedly lead to his demise only ever cost him against a much larger and skilled in-fighter in Riddick Bowe.Difference between landing and absorbing punches from a man that doesn't outweigh you by thirty pounds.
I wouldn't call Marciano basic and limited that's for sure. Yeah, Goldman took a raw fighter with two left feet and made him an undefeated champion. Either way, Holy is still a beefed up cruiserweight and I don't see him beating Marciano regardless if you believe he has far TOO many options which I don't see. Marciano could box a little too.
