    i think you misunderstood what you might have heard. magnetic pole shifts does occur on regular basis (not to be confused with geographic pole shifts). if that occurs, some areas on the planet will not be protected against sun radiations. that can causes drought and forrest fires. but this process (magnetic shift) is not instantanious, it takes time (hundred of years).
