Just to continue on from another thread i am curious to see what pubs are good to go to for watching fights. Taking into account the clientele (i hate watching fights with drunken morons that don't know ****, or hipster/spoilt teenagers that don't shut up), seating and TV situation (gotta have a big screen)

My top 3 would be as follows...

    1. Harold Park Hotel, Glebe

The dude that owns this place is awesome. Loves boxing and has built a great pub. It has a huge projection screen for the mega fights in the main area and plasma tv at every bar and in every corner. The people that go to watch fights are your old salt of the earth types whose eyes light up when they realise you know who Greb, Benny Leonard and SRR are. Heaps of comfy couches to chill on and when the boxing is on, the tv volume goes up and mainevent is on every channel. One day i went down there and i was the only person in because it had just opened. The guy paid for a mainevent fight just for me, one customer. He shows every single fight, or did last time i was in, and is happy to talk boxing. ****ing good guy who i suspect has plenty of money from less than reputable sources haha. His hot little filipina missus works the bar :hey

    2. The ****** Bar, Balmain

If this place were bigger it would be my fave. They show all the fights as well and have a room pretty much dedicated to watching boxing and footy. It is basically an oversized lounge room with a huge LCD on the wall and its own little bar that serves just beer and wine. The real kicker of this place is the relatively unknown upstairs room. This is so awesome. Basically it is a room at the very top of the pub which is cut off from downstairs. It has a view of the harbour and can comfortably seat 10-15 on couches. It then just has a big ass TV. What i normally do is call Saturday arvo and ask if i can book that room for the fight tomorrow for 15 people. It is free and its like having your own lounge room in the pub! Going there for Pac vs SSM if anyone is keen haha. There is a regular group that go there to watch boxing and they are good people. Couple of old pommy guys, Rick and Dash, who i always sit with and talk 80's and 90's boxing. Heaps of pinoys come in when Pac fights and one woman made he an honourary filo because i was the only white guy not going for Oscar

    3. Star City Casino

Simple, but in a good way. The screen is huge, the beer is close, people are getting in to it because they have money riding on the outcome and it is close to the city. I recommend trying it out just once, its real good. I usually pile up some fried rice, half a dozen schooners and watch the action. Problem is most other punters are chinese and cant talk about boxing because they only speak chinese or they are rude ****s who just want more money.

I hate Star city with a passion, i went there to watch the GSP vs Koshcheck UFC and Khan v Maidana happened to be on at the same time, the way you have to sit in that big theatre like thing now is so irritating, no table to put ya beer, the place is ****ed.

    nice!

i do agree with the Star City issue... not the best seating unfortunately

another good one is the Moore Park View hotel... the reason i like it is because during the fights the only people that are there to watch are in fact fight fans. Its not big or anything, but it just has good atmosphere.

If anyone is in the cold mists of Canberra and your looking for a club that plays the boxing/UFC hit up the Magpies club in Kippax or Civic. Good food, big projector and fine waitresses!

    The Alexandria, Redfern

The owner there loves his boxing, I often find myself chatting to actual boxers/mma guys there. Sure there's you're odd casual 'know it all', drunken lout and usually a few people who are just there for the beer and don't even watch the fight, but there is always a room allocated to it, on multiple screens and generally plays every fight he can.

Also the closest place to me that reliably plays fights.

Gonzo were you upstairs for the Pac v ODLH fight?? I was up there with the pommies - Vinny and co, I would always go to ****** Bar for fights but sadly i thought with new owners it wasn't showing them anymore.

Haven't seen Vinny around for a while, he used to collect the posters at the ****** Bar, He gave me a Calzaghe v RJJ poster but i lost it :patsch

Harbord Diggers used to be good - they've got a sports amphitheatre with a whole wall of flat screen TVs that becomes one big screen when they show events, and a curved carpeted 'stepped' seating area opposite it...unfortunately they don't get as many fight son as they used to...
