This one of Sydney Stadium is brilliant!

The picture just takes you back to Aussie boxing 1955.


(guessing it's 1955 - Sinatra toured that year and the cars would fit the period)

 

Yep, FJ holden & an Austin A40,,,But,, you missed the biggest thing since the wheel,,,STAMINA SELF SUPPORTING TROUSERS.
All them ****s that would sneak up behind ya & ping ya braces then run,, the SS trousers ****ed 'em :rofl:rofl:rofl

Mind you, braces came back into style with the "advent" of the poker machine "Spokes"
You could hide a 2 footer behind them & fill your pockets with 2 bobs The braces would take the load.

BTW. That photo album we had with the Glossy 10 X 8 pics of all the top fighters also had little quips between the photo's.
Looking at that stadium shot reminded me of one.

A "Permanent wave" was a ladies hairstyle, which is the hairdo on all those women.

Knew the Holden was an FJ by the grill.

The FX Holden, which was 1948 to 53 (?), had a simpler grill with less chrome than the one in the picture.

Thought the other car was an Austin, but wasn't sure which model.

But Sinatra on the billboard nails it as 1955.

 

I was there when Rolf Harris made his debut in Sydney.
He was on the undercard of one-hit-wonder Crash Craddock (Boom Boom Baby).
Rolf kicked off with his lump of masonite & had everyone looking to climb under a chair in embarrassment, but he went on & blew them away. Done two songs & left with roars of approval & "More,, More".
Crash hit the stage to a red hot crowd & wowed them to luke warm
