Jack Johnson would beat all the ATG swarmers

Most of those swarmers would have Chin Checked Johnson at some point in the fight and I don't think he could have taken it.

 

What also cannot be overlooked, is the fact that the relatively green Jeffries took flush shots from Choynski and did not fall, this must be an endorsement for the durability of his chin.

If you want to be fair, Choysnki was past his prime when the match happened. Also, the match took place in Johnson's home town, which is an advantage. It was Choysnki who rode the rails to get there.

Johnson had 24+ recorded matches under his belt, and a few battle royals. The odds are Johnson had more fights than this. I disagree with you when you say Johnson was a green fighter. Johnson's weight for this match is an unknown. 170's is possible, so is the 180's.

 

It is a good question actually. Which fighter was further removed from their prime. I think Johnson would become more careful with time, but there is no doubt that Choynski would have been a much better proposition when younger.

What does this fight tell us about prime for prime matchups, if anything.

I think the opinion of the time was that Choynski came from a better era than Jack Johnson. In fact, i dare say that when Jeffries retired that you would not find too many people who ranked Johnson ahead of prime Choynski. Although obviously this seemed to change once Johnson dominated Burns and beat Jeffries. Do you guys think that Prime choynski would have went on and dominated in the same manner as JOhnson? Or did Johnson just improve in leaps and bounds.

I tend to think that Choynski might have beaten the Langford, Martin, McVey, Jeanette and Hart that Johnson faced. In fact when you think about it, he had a live chance against Burns, Flynn, Ancient Jeffries and most of the Great White Hopes that Johnson faced. In fact, i get the feeling that Ketchel might have been the biggest spanner in the works, if Choynski and Johnson had switched places.

And it makes you wonder even further. If Choynski was a chance at doing something similar to what Johnson did, wouldnt Corbett, Jackson and Sullivan be odds on to achieve the same result? That was the thought of the day, i wonder if it may have been right:think
