Cotto should rather fight Maravilla at LMW than Chavez Jr. at catchweight MW

I think at 154/155 he stands a very good chance. It's not like Martinez is invincable.

Your ability to misunderstand my posts concerning Martinez, always shine through. Where I have I said he always picks on midgets? All I said was:

And this is very true. Since his destruction Dzinziruk, he and his promoter have been pretty persistent in their pursuit of Cotto and Pacquiao - two guys who are almost two divisions smaller than him (I say two, because Cotto is a very small 154 fighter in my opinion), but will give him paydays no one else can. That's what I meant.

Well, we can say its probably the one of the fastest and most exciting routes to getting to the top... at the risk of getting murdered

He simply wants to fight the BEST regardless of sizes (or money for that matter, he took a major cut in all of his recent fights to get it done), I think fighting Cintron, Williams, Pavlik, Williams and Dzinziruk in a row in multiple divisions (but being smaller in all fights) showed us that much. He wants Mayweather and Pacquiao simply because they are the best, and the next highest ranked kid on the block is Cotto, a champion in a division Martinez is willing to go down to, and a division BTW all of them picked up a title once, Floyd and Pac too. So allow me to disagree with your cash in on smaller guys statement about a year after he fought a cruiserweight Kelly Pavlik. Maravilla only moved up when Team Williams offered the part of the substitute when Pavlik pulled out.

Yeah, sure, they're wanting to fight the best only....

I'm not even bashing Martinez here, nor am I bashing his impressive run of wins. I mean, I'm a Martinez fan for crying out loud!

But there's no denying that he is at the latter stage of his career, and is wanting to chase the big-money fights - which happen to be floating down at the lower weights. Unfortunately for Sergio, those guys, for good reasons, aren't willing to step in with him.

Look at the photo above Martinez clearly isn't smaller than Dzinziruk. He came into that fight at 170 lbs, that's big for a middle. I think a catch weight at 156 lbs would be good though.

Maravilla would seriously end Cotto's career.

He's just unlucky that there are no big names at middle weight realy, and most of the top contenders at super middle are huge at the weight + there are some tough guys at that weight. Of course Martinez wants to make money, most of the time big names are usually tougher than contenders people hype up on here anyway imo, Pirog being a prime example. If there were big names at this weight I'm sure he'd fight them but there aren't so he has a choice between either going up in weight against much bigger guys or trying to fight smaller guys for the same money.

On that we agree, as he cleaned house at MW (beating the bigger dudes willing to share the ring with him), the best fights left are below, what can you do. But it does not mean he "wants to cash in on smaller guys", dunno where the hell are you getting this. Maybe DiBella wants to cash in on Martinez because he thinks it's a matter of time before age catches up with him (I don't).

Ideally the best MW fight would be against Sturm, a very popular fighter in Germany and the #1 contender in the division, but I don't think he ever wants to step inside the ring with Martinez. Kirkland is gone, Lemieux is gone, Pavlik moved up, Williams moved down, Wright is missing, Pirog disappointed, Golovkin & Hassan N'Dam are tied at the WBA situation, there isn't many options left for Martinez, #1 LMW Cotto at 154lbs/156lbs is one. That doesn't mean however he wants to cash in on smaller dudes, his actions speak the 100% opposite. It only means Cotto is his best option to become P4P King, if not him, the Ishidas are left to fight. Now tell me which one is the better fight.

Cotto isn't and hasn't been the type to call people out. And I wouldn't like to see Cotto in with Martinez anyway, all wrong for him at this stage in his career.

Cotto is almost identical to Pacquiao in size, in virtually every area. I'm on the fence on whether I'm for or against Pacquiao stepping in with Martinez...and I'd give Pacquiao more of a chance of beating Martinez than I do Cotto.

Cotto really needs a mover who can punch and fight for 12 rounds at this stage of his career. Not!

What did Cotto do to you? I'm not sure Sergio can even make 154 anymore and Cotto would get creamed by Martinez, no point in making that fight. Martinez should stick to 160 and Cotto to 154 especially since Cotto ain't a normal-sized 154 pounder to begin with.
