Do you think a round could be won without throwing a punch?

I think that if you manage to land 1 shot on 100 and the other is 0 shot on 0 try...

    You win the round.

I think a case could be made for the defensive fighter who doesn't throw a punch if in that round he completely beguiles his opponent and leaves him exhausted. Theoretically if his opponent doesn't land (or barely lands) and leaves the round breathing through his mouth while the defensive fighter is fine you could make a case that the defender got the better of the two in that round, leaving his opponent in worse condition.

No! But I would love to if the defence fighter was makin a fool of the other guy (falling into the ropes after a missed right hand and such things like that)

Anything is possible which is why I'd like to see the round in question. However Pep would have had to be super, super amazing that round.

It doesn't work that way. Your objective in boxing is not to look good by round's or fight's end, but to hit the other guy.

If you don't get hit at all and slip literally everything yes you'd win the round on ring generalship, effective aggression is what's scored if the guy misses every punch he throws he wasn't effective.

If you don't throw a punch and avoid all incoming punches, you are even in defense and clean punching, but you lose in ring generalship and effective aggression. So unless the other guy is fouling you or suffers an injury, you can't win.

If a guy throws 50 punches and does not connect with one because you have used your defence to slip and slide, then i dont see why not?

  11. I think that Willie Pepp myth is just that, a myth.

However, I can envision an extremely gifted stylist like Mayweather winning a round throwing no punches vs. a guy with absolutely no talent or skills. He would have to completely avoid ALL punches thrown by the opponent. Meaning he would have to cleanly dodge (not block) everything thrown and look really really good doing it to win the round.

Judges don't score aggressiveness, they score effective aggressiveness. Which means defense and ring generalship beats ineffective aggressiveness 100% of the time.

Will we ever see anything like this happen? Nah.

If your aggressiveness is such that it's preventing your opponent from throwing a punch entirely, it's effective. If the other guy is fighting and you're ONLY defending, he is also dominating ring generalship.

    No.

Maybe in theory in a perfect fight. But it has never happened in real life and will never happen.

Technically the round wasn't scored, though. Standing fighter wins the fight, in that round, but, technically, the round wasn't scored.

  15. Your operative word is IF. I'll use it too:

If the stylist happened to have broken both of his hands/shoulders/elbows in the previous round... OR he just decided he isn't gonna throw any punches for whatever reason.. who's to say his opponent's aggressiveness has anything to do with that?
