Eurosport. 8'500 empty seats and Eurosport, he'd go bankrupt.

Its a shame he won the bids because this will be a great fight and nobody will see it.

To be fair, it's obvious a silly idea to have a fight like this in Spain.

But I kinda like the idea. Boxing used to go worldwide and the likes of Ali would travel all over fighting. Now every big fight is in Vegas (or sometimes Texas). Now nobody goes anywhere and only fights twice, 3 times a year at most :(

I can actually picture this fight being huge in Spain and if people properly got behind the idea over here it could've been huge.

Shame but boxing's changed. If this fight's gonna happen it'll be at the o2 or MEN. Where's the imagination gone?

    Roe, that is true.

In a different economic climate, and with boxing being as big as it used to be (that's a biggie!) this would've been quality.

But today, it shows Fat Micks ineptitude.

To be fair Hennessy makes valid points, there have been other British Title fights take place outside of the UK so there is a precedent.

There will be thousands of Brits in Spain on their holidays, it might have been a success, plus he has obviously sorted out support from stakeholders in Spain i.e. tv, sponsorship etc.

The BBOoC isnt helping boxing by sticking the boot into the likes of Hennessy, especially with his struggle to keep his company going. More promoters in the game is a good thing for the sport, there is a vast amount of pro boxers out there that cant get fights.

If you are a supporter of boxing, then you should be getting behind the likes of Hennessy and any other promoter struggling to run shows without mainstream UK tv support.

You say boxing all over the world but has it ever really been truly global. I thought the only time that boxing went on tour like that really was with Ali and thats because he was a global superstar so they could pack out Kuala Lumpur Manilla London Frankfurt. They tried again a bit with Tyson the Douglas fight was in Japan but that put the brakes on that.

Realistically boxing has always had Mecca's MSG 1,2,3 MGM in the UK it was Harringay Arena and more recently the MEN.

I do however see your point and I dont think its the worst idea to take boxing to different environments. I suppose in Marbella it is still accessible for Brits and obviously the expats and if it was marketed as a blue riband must see event it could get the attention out there. I guess we will never know though

Hennessy had the mainstream but he lost it because he is incompetent.

I think you find that ITV posted massive losses during the financial year that they decided to cull boxing and Hennessy suffered as a result. Nothing to do with incompetence.

He took his number one fighter away from ITV at a time he was primed to cross over and put him on a slapped together PPV stream online. That was incredibly incompetent.

He didnt "take him away" ITV got rid of him they weren't prepared to give him any money for Froch's fights.

He surely must of went to Sky but for whatever reason they didnt want him so they put him on Primetime and probably made a few 100k for it. Sky didnt want him and ITV ditched him he was left in no mans land.

Hennessy was trying to sell the product that is Carl Froch to either ITV or Sky. Froch is a good product. Hennessy is a crap salesman.

IIRC Hennessy was saying that they should give him a million quid because Froch had a belt and ITV told him no, so he took Froch away from ITV to do his own ropey PPV. His other fighters were still on ITV.

I see your point after the ITV debacle there is a lot that is open for interpretation. It essentially boils down to is Hennessey at fault or is Sky at fault.

People lay the blame at the feet of Hennessey because he is the promoter. Now I can believe that Hennessey didnt push Carl hard enough to Sky.

But what makes me think that there was some sort of agenda against Hennessey was how he had at the time the second best stable in the UK and was completely frozen out by Sky who were handing out contracts left right and centre.

Now Carl leaves Hennessey he gets on Sky same with his other fighters. :think

You're not wrong but someone in Hennessy's position simply could not afford to fall out with Sky. Doesn't matter if Sky was unreasonable or whatever -- Hennessy needed Sky more than they needed him.
