A non-dehydrated cotto at 140 vs ricky hatton on his best night

Prime Hatton beats any version of Cotto at 140. 147 is a different matter.

Cotto when he was relatively healthy at 140, which he was for a period, would have beat Hatton with his better technique. Actually I see Cotto doing serious damage to Hatton's body, he'd taste his own medicine. Look what happened against Urango, Ricky felt a body shot and then clung on for near on 6 or 7 rounds. With the precision Miguel has, good night.

 

Hatton didn't cling on for six or seven rounds against Urango. It was, in some ways, his last decent performance, though he was badly stung in the last few rounds.

Hatton would be worth betting on here. For all his faults, his peak at light-welter exceeded anything Cotto brought at light-welter. Remember, before his punch resistance went (largely due to neglecting his head movement from the Tyzyu fight onwards), Hatton was pretty accurate for a relentless pressure fighter. weight aside, he's far superior to Margarito, who though got his arse handed to him for a good six rounds vs Cotto did the walk down the Puerto Rican and battered him.

Hatton would've won the bout down the stretch, but Cotto goes down as the better fighter in terms of achievements.

 

I think Margarito getting his arse handed to him by Cotto for 6 rounds is a bit of myth. It was 4 - 2 at worst, maybe even 3 - 3.

 

I agree. Other than the early rounds where Cotto took time to work out, I can't see Hatton getting a hold here. He doesn't hit hard enough, work hard enough on the inside, or possess the sort of toughness to beat Cotto. Another thing - Hatton's right hand technique is even worse than Cotto's.

Cotto's punch placement, jab and heavier hands will see Hatton clinging on for dear life after six. Cotto's also a ruthless finisher when his opponent is in trouble. He cuts the ring off beautifully and is adept at getting in and out of range.

Hatton takes a bad beating and ends up crumpled on the canvas from a left hook to the liver.

 

He took some terrifying punishment. I had Cotto up 5-1 and then... well, I don't like to think about what happened next.

 

No it was the fact Hatton finally was fighting decent operators and not old men in his hometown, Cotto would beat Hatton handily.

 

It didn't look that terrifying, he was pissing himself laughing at most of it.

 

Cotto would KO Hatton late.

 

Cotto had all the things Hatton had, but he had velvet gloves as well, and he would be too well rounded for the Rickster.

 

Hatton would break Cotto in 7/8 rounds.

 

Hatton would lose. Cotto would come out on top just like he did against Torres.

 

Margarito isn't even relevant. Margarito's chin is ridiculous. Even against Shane, he wasn't exactly hurt really badly, it was more a case of him taking huge shots consistently and having everything beat out of him than a chin failure. Hatton's chin was decent to good at best, very crackable and he he WAS hurt to the body against Urango don't even try and bull**** out of that one. It wasn't a 'good' performance either. We've seen Devon Alexander hand him his ass recently, he's a poor fighter.
