Hennessy Sports Statement on Fury vs. Chisora Purse Bids

he took him away from ITV mate. all hennesey fights were on itv in 2008-2009 apart from Froch vs Taylor and Dirrell?? How comes?

sky always made offers but hennesey went with primetime as they offered more.

ITV ditched him as he did not deliver. angel mcenzie!!!

I nearly feel sorry for him what a tit..... Big British fight and we will try and get the venue in Spain, its only a domestic tear up, jesus Manchester would of done..

 

I don't doubt that there's been some kind of collective bargaining at some point between certain parties with a view to eliminating Hennessy. Obviously a certain promoter carries a great deal of sway with the board too....

However, what can't be denied is Hennessy's failings with his three potential star names - Froch, Barker and Murray. The Super Six was the easy option as far as he was concerned, guaranteed money from the States, fights that promoted themselves (two of which were abroad) - and he most probably made a nice wedge out of doing very little.

The fact that Barker and Murray are both unbeaten European champions and nobody knows who they are is a testament to his lack of vision and seemingly promotional ability.

Obviously the ITV situation conspired against him, but no doubt they were expecting the entire stable to be screened by them, not everyone but Froch - who was the top fighter amongst that group.

Additionally, no doubt they became frustrated about his inability/unwillingness to make the fights.....

He kept Barker and Elcock apart, only to serve Elcock up to Macklin.
He ****ed around with Murray and Thaxton, when the fight should have been made when Jon beat the Spanish guy.
He had Witter and Daws in the most pointless ten rounders ever - why not match them?

etc etc

What's happened to him is unfortunate, but he's largely been the architect of his own downfall. The upside of it is that the best British fighter will now receive proper coverage and promotion. If Hennessy or anyone else suffers because of that, tough.

 

Certainly the Chisora vs Fury shinanigans has allot to do with Warren and Sky/Matchroom have almost orchstrated a ditching of his stable.

Hennesey wanted £300,000. Thats what he demanded from Setanta, Sky. It may have been a bit less from ITV.

When he came back to the table with Sky after the ITV deal went he wanted a certain amount of dates. Sky just wanted Froch. Froch was unaware of this.

 

Without going too deep and spending all day looking..... I'd say this one is probably his best show in terms of good fights.

Trouble was, a title eliminator for Froch fell apart and Witter lost to Bradley. Some other decent fights on here....

I hope as time goes on (end of promoters current deals) we end up with only 2-3 Promoters on Sky. Warren, Matchroom & Hattons.

 

I think that'll be the way they'll go.

Hopefully though they leave the door open to other promoters that can put something together, rather than making it a closed shop.

The main thing we want to see is good fights - too often we've seen two lads kept apart for no good reason, and for European title fights we want European class opponents.

Not just someone that is as good as an English level fighter but happens to be French or Italian. Maludrottu's and Kiko Martinez's are absolutely fine, but Trotta's, Jomardashvili's etc aren't.

Maybe a fighter needs to be world ranked to accept a European title fight. Would still give them 10+ fighters to choose from in most divisions.

 

I've never said abolish it, all I've said is that Sky are supposed to be promoting domestic boxing.... by allowing promoters to bring in these duffers instead of getting the right matches made the sport doesn't benefit.

Being world ranked is a good idea, I'd imagine that would leave a smaller pool of potential opponents than the EBU rankings currently does.

 

Yep. EBU cant be hit and miss.
