I find it all very amateurish, how they can't wait to end the show as soon as a fight ends. No proper analysis or breakdown of styles or where the fight was won and lost. Nothing.
I wonder if they're not allowed to show the post fight interviews? Just a guess. Sky purchased the top rank feed, and not the Showtime feed - they might not have the rights to Showtime's interviews. If I recall correctly there is a fair bit of difference between the top rank feed and the other televised feed. When Pac fought Cotto I watched it live on Sky (which used the TR feed), but then also downloaded the HBO version. The two were different and the HBO version had several additional camera angles not shown on Sky. From memory we pretty much got a single shot, wide view of the ring for the entire Pac-Mosley broadcast, despite there being a number of ringside cameras. I might download the showtime version out if interest (sad, I know). Then again the programme had over run past it's time slot, so perhaps Sky skipped the interviews for this reason?
I would be happy if they used the showtime/hbo broadcast and only had the british analyst team in the studio.
thats exactly what they should do. send a reporter out to cover the build up/weigh in etc. but get the far superior american commentary.
I always record the repeat the next day as well as the live event, as they often show the post fight interviews on the repeat.
I don't know how many times this has had to be explained but its not available. Showtime/HBO don't retain the international rights and the promoter has a feed (with optional commentary) that is available to international broadcasters.
This man speaks the truth.:deal As for the interviews, they would have used the Top Rank international one, as they have in the past on Pacquiao fights. But I'd imagine with it finishing at 6am they must have thought 'Nobodies gonna hang around for the interviews so let's just go off the air ASAP'. Plus with Showtime presumably having first dibs at an interview, it could have been 10 or 15 minutes before the international feed got a go. There's not this problem on Golden Boy fights when the international feed (tends to) take the HBO interview. Not that I am backing Sky on this, I'd have rather them stuck around for a bit, but just giving reasons why they didn't. I presume any interviews done would have been stuck in on the replay programme on sunday morning.
when hbo showed williams vs margarito they had the american commentators. but yes i agree with Grant1 as soon as the main event is over its like they can't wait to end the programme.
Fair point. There are the odd US fights where the promoters don't put out a separate international commentary, and this was one of those occasions. But it was a separate feed than the US one if you get me, because it didn't have the Showtime opening credits, and the sound was all ropey at the start.
