Looking at Pacquiao on Saturday , gone was the foot speed , gone was the constant movement and ferocity , athletesism , speed , power it was all there against Mosley but just less of it .

I seen Ariza say on FC360 that Manny hadnt done anything in 5 months , in terms of boxing , that cannot be good for a fighter who relies mainly on his physical attributes as an action fighter with an extremely high output .

The size of him against Mosley seemed to be different too , while still in immaculate shape he looked thicker , he wasnt moving that great and in summary he looked slower than he normally does .

Being a political figure is a time consuming act , how can he continue to be the type of fighter he is / has been with this much commitment outside of the ring .

Look at him in his first fight @147 with De La Hoya , if that Manny fought Mosley (Sat night's version of Mosley) it would of been a very early night for Shane !!

    Thoughts :good

    You're wrong

His foot movement, speed, ferocity was all there. Against Shane he didn't have to get out of second gear so whats the point?

Remember, against Margarito he took it easy because of the beating his was taking, and I think against Shane after the knockdown he knew he had his number and thought "I have this in the bag, Shane is a nice guy and I don't want to hurt him so I'll give him a free pass for the remaining rounds"

Believe me, against Mayweather, Pacquiao would not stop throwing punches and he would be an absolute animal in the ring, just in this case, he is a nice guy and doesn't want to hurt his opponent. A wierd thing to say about a future ATG but thats who he is, a nice guy who happens to be a boxer. Shane knew after the knockdown he had no chance, so did Manny. Why KO a modern great? No need. Let Shane have his dignity of never being Ko's, stroll to a UD and forget about it

Big possibility , suppose we will see against Marquez ................ , Roach made a big deal of Manny looking for the finish pre fight , it was always in the gameplan to try and finish Mosley !! , he didnt look completley right to me ................

The way Shane fought, what else could he do?

At points he even ran after Shane. Mosley stunk the show out - nothing Pacquiao could have done.

I think his opponents are part of the problem. Pacquiao doesn't even need to hit top gear most of time, he carries his opponents.. It's bad for him, he needs someone who could actually give him a real 'fight', not a sparring session.

I think you all are preatty spoiled. Manny won every single round had a knockdown and was chasing after an opponent that was clearly scared to commit.

If thats a bad Manny performance, then Im scared for the opponents life when Manny puts on a good performance

    My thoughts are this:
    • It's difficult to apply your usual ferocity against an extremely negative and continuously retreating target.
    • It's foolish to apply your usual ferocity against an extremely negative and continuously retreating target, because you'll be tiring yourself out hitting thin air and chasing something which doesn't want to be there to be hit.
    • Pac opted to take a more casual, cautious approach (remember, Shane has great power too - possibly the biggest punch Pac has come across in his career).
    • Pacquiao still has the foot and hand speed, power, ferocity, stamina he's shown us in previous fights. He just wasn't in a fight where he could show us this.
    • You people need to think before immediately throwing out this 'Pac is past prime' notion.

Read the title of the thread , i never once have suggested he's past his prime .

    I pointed out 3 things ;

Inactivity / out of the ring activities
    His size
    And his lack of output

Your theory may be spot on , i suppose we wont know until November , i was just putting it out there

In my honest opinion I thinks he fights too much, too soon not giving his body enough time to recover from the wars and rigorous training he goes through.

Sorry, mate. I guess it's because I've come across soooo many threads/comments about Pacquiao being exposed and past his best. And when I read your:

I just assumed (wrongly) you were pushing the same notion, too. Sorry :good

But I seriously think we have to factor in Mosley's approach to the fight, which played a huge role in the way Pacquiao looked. I really likes this analysis from Stephen "Bread" Edwards:

"Yes Mosley is a shot fighter! That’s why I hated this fight from the beginning. I’m glad this fight blew up the way it did to be honest.

Manny had trouble landing on Shane because he was in the ring with an athletic, experienced fighter who went in total defensive mode. If you don’t open up and you constantly prepare to be hit, it makes it harder for your opponents to land on you. That’s why if you look real close, most great defensive fighters are NOT great offensive fighters. Shane actually said after the fight, “I didn’t open up because , you can get knocked out when you open up and take chances.

Slick, defensive fighters like Mayweather give everybody fits. The difference is Mayweather would come to WIN not to survive. I can’t say for sure if Manny is slowing down. I have said many times that he will soon. The problem is ACTION fighters need a dance partner. History shows us that. A prime Mike Tyson did not look good against Bonecrusher Smith and Tony Tucker. Does anybody remember that? Roberto Duran also had a subpar performance against Edwin Viruet. It’s really tough to look good against a survivor. Manny looked different against Oscar because Oscar came to win. He may have been limited but he wanted to fight. Oscar also didn’t run like Shane did. There was not a need for too much side to side movement for a man who was moving away so rapidly. Manny was caught in a bad spot because he didn’t want to be too careless because Shane can punch, at the same time he wanted to press the action to satisfy the fans. Manny was not overly cautious. He pressed but you look stupid if you press too hard and force it.

This may sound harsh but I’m tired of Shane. His performance against Floyd was terrible but this was worst. His moral goal last night was to not get stopped. Ok fine. But show some grit and fight back. He kept beating us in the head about all of the speed and power. He kept saying if Margarito can hit him, I know I can. Well freaking hit him and go out on your shield.

I don’t know if Floyd could handle Manny’s speed and power. I sure as hell would like to find out. If Manny is 100% I would take him to beat Floyd. I know Manny claims a leg problem and I believe he will break down in the next year, which I have stated numerous times. But I say right now he will beat Floyd. Manny does some things that even a hardcore fan can’t see. Let me break this down. His punch selection is off the charts. He was throwing right uppercuts, off of check hooks. Just sick. I have a news flash that Manny and Co. may not like me putting out there. Manny is right handed. Look at him sign autographs. Whatever hand you write with, is what you are considered. Look at footage of Manny signing something and tell me what hand he is. Manny also has the best feint in the business. During the fight I noticed Shane bite on every feint. Why because you are dealing with the best offensive fighter in boxing, who has blinding speed and numbing power, you have to respect his feint. Manny also takes inventory. Everytime he is hit, he comes right back. With his frenetic crown favoring him and going crazy in a fight against Floyd, I say he will get the benefit of the doubt by the judges.

I also believe that when various people concur on something and they are from different parties then it must be true. David Diaz tried to fight and got brutalized, sickly I might add. Oscar got totally demoralized and destroyed and got a broken eye bone. Ricky Hatton tried to win and suffered the worst ko of the last 5 years. Miguel Cotto got beat to a pulp. Joshua Clottey went in absolute shell shock once he got hit. Antonio Margarito is still suffering from injuries from the fight that happened 7 months ago, suffering a broken eye orbital. And Shane Mosley gets cleanly dropped and runs for the rest of the fight. He is known for an iron chin and what is perceived as a bad night by Manny, Mosley states, “ I have never been hit like that, and Manny is the best fighter in the world.” I think that says a lot but hopefully not too much. Floyd sees and hears these things. All of these big strong tough men, just react different once Manny puts hands on him. The guy must be something kind of different

Breadman is usually right on but this really makes him look dumb or that he's experiencing a post fight high. He mentions how Pac has the best feint in boxing right now. Total heresay. He should re-watch Floyd/Mosley. 2nd about Manny being right handed just because he writes with his right....Breadman needs to calm the **** down. Mosley was timing Manny with his pitty pat jab and left hook during the fight when Manny threw his repetitious right hand. Bread's starting to become a fanboy. Plus IMO Pac isn't slowing down. Shane was actually slipping a dodging alot of his shots a la being a moving target. If Pac's opposition doesn't exchange Pac's going to look like ****.
