adminatsch:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl problaby one of the most ignorant comments ever. riddick bowe is a top 10 punchers too right?
Ignorant meaning I actually watch these guys fight and don't just blather on reiterating the same bull****? Lyle was no beast but he stood toe to toe with Foreman and traded with him, and came damn close to pulling it off simply by virtue of the fact that he could throw straight punches with some power.
Tyson's combination punching was often neutralised by fighters who were strong enough to hold and smother him. He ended up getting off maybe one punch at a time, and often resorted to just throwing one at a time too. It took him a while to break down stubborn strong guys. Obviously, Foreman's not going to use survival tactics but he's going to be able to reduce Tyson's offense considerably by grabbing, pushing or holding him back with one arm while he punches with the other .... just like Foreman fights everyone. Tyson, for all his speed, was a short-armed fighter who had to spring inside the range of Foreman's arms. And much of Tyson's attacks were telegraphed and predictable too. Tyson's chin would hold up against single punches. But Foreman was a guy who'd keep hitting you. He's not like a Frank Bruno or Bonecrusher Smith.
ron lyle was one of the strongest hws ever, foreman said that lyle did hit him harder even than liston did. i would say that ron lyle was physically stronger than mike tyson.lyle had raw power, the power of tyson was speed. honestly, what stupid comment. lyle tried to exchange blows with foreman and he got destroyed, plain and simple. chinny lyle? :rofl:rofl:hi:
I would hope so, considering Liston and Foreman only sparred Liston would be a bit of an ******* if he took off a 19 year old Foreman's head doncha think You're literally all boxing cliches...sort of amusing I guess
cosidering that foreman said that he destroyed his sparring partners and he fought wars against liston in the sparring sessions. and foreman was the olimpic champ.tyson was 20 when he won the belt , so berbick did not want fight against a kid right? oh wait... tyson was tyson and he was a man when he was 19-20 right?:rofl:rofl
A lot of people use the Ron Lyle fight as a template for justifying a Tyson victory. Very misleading. Foreman may have still been in his physical prime, but not at his peak. George's PEAK ended after 2.58 - eighth round in Zaire against Muhammad Ali. The Lyle fight was George's first fight after over a year's lay off (Not counting that pointless exhibition in Toronto) Foreman did well to come through such a stern test. Prime for prime,Foreman knocks out Tyson. Foreman too strong mentally and physically for Tyson.
Foreman wasn't at his best for Lyle but he won anyway. He was trying some new boxing style that didn't really suit him, and ended up in a life-and-death brawl - which he won. Tyson had his own off night against Douglas and got beaten up and knocked out. Lyle may not have been a great fighter but he was fearless and truly came to win against Foreman. Which is more than guys like Smith and Bruno and Spinks brought to fight Tyson.
actually it is very funny because still in 2011 some guys think that this fantasy match is even debatable lmao, foreman would demolish tyson, it would not be close.(and the most ignorant people continues talking about the speed and the defence lol, the best speed and the best defence is not matter when styles make fights)
If George was mentally strong he wouldn't have gone off the rails post Ali and quit the sport post Young. This is probably one of the most interesting fights that i can think of historically, i used to think George would win but i am now of the opinion that Tyson wins by knockout.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nrKkmz16m4[/ame] If you can point to a fight in which 70's Foreman fights like Douglas here, let me know. He lacks almost all of the skills which made Douglas successful against Tyson. The Lyle fight is more valid because it was all that Tyson was about. The shorter and faster punches doing the work.
It's one of the only fights between great heavyweights that still really interest me. Both guys play into each others strengths to an extent.
