P, Willie Pep did this and more in his sleep. Willie never needed to do the rope-a dope. Never needed to clinch often to conserve energy, and oh yes, Pep had THREE times as many bouts...
P.S. Frazier wiped that smile off with a booming left-hook in the last round
I recall vividly, as I was in attendance that night of the FOTC. Cheers P...
P, I thought you were refering to Ali's smile, and i posted the above about Ali
instead...Sorry about that P. You are correct about Joe Frazier, who along with Joe Louis, and Marciano are my favorite "modern' heavyweights...Cheers...

In Zaire. Muhammad Ali came back to his corner after picking up some heavy body shots from George Foreman. Muhammad then stood up on his stool, and conducted some of his supporters, chanting "Ali Bomaye" Incredible !

I loved Hopkins' showboating against Pascal in the first fight. He stuck his tongue out and knew he had outworked and dictated the fight better than Pascal.

I think Leonard Hagler was the best example i have seen. In fact, i think it played a reasonable role in influencing judges and winning rounds. Every time Leonard lifted his arm to fake the Wind up punch, the crowd went off, and of course when he landed it also. I think it may have helped win some close rounds.

I also liked Ali's wind up punch, I think it was against Quarry or maybe Dunn where i think it may have even helped the referee make up his mind to stop the fight.

RJJ showboating is probably my favorite. Those wind-up punches just oozed dominance.

Either Duran at the end of one of the rounds against Moore where he jumped up and down on the balls of his toes and you saw in Moore's eyes that he knew he was not coming through this

    or

the one where Naseem hit a guy full force, started to do a shagging type motion, the guy threw a shot back, he ducked, laid him out and then started shaking his ass

Jeff Chandler is a forgotten master of showboating. See Gaby Canizales fight.
