“I WANT TO BE one of those guys where people say ‘you remember Brandon Rios?’ He was a bad-ass fighter, a true warrior. And when my career ends I want to be remembered like (Arturo) Gatti.”

At the age of 15-years old, Rios was watching Gatti as he outgunned Tracy Patterson to win his first world title at the age of 24. As gladiators of the sport, Gatti and Rios are regarded as ‘throwback’ fighters, men willing to take plenty of shots to land that one decisive punch.

In February of this year, two months short of his 25th birthday, Rios was laying similar tactics as he continually stalked and preyed on WBA lightweight champion Miguel Acosta in his first world title attempt at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. From the early stages of the contest, the champion boxed on the back foot attempting to fend off the relentlessness of his challenger. Despite Acosta controlling the first half of the fight Rios grew stronger and broke the champion’s will. The fight came to a conclusion in the tenth round, Rios had put his man down twice, he had absorbed all the Venezuelan could muster and shrieked in delight at becoming a major player in the 135lb division.

More like a fan of logic. I am not saying Gatti was not entertaining but Rios should not want to have a career like that even if Gatti was alive I am sure he would agree that he should of train better and have better people handling his money.

All sharp guys after their horrendous punishment in the ring, how do you explain them guys?

Take a look at Brandons trainer, Robert Garcia... sharp as a knife and he's been through complete wars.

Just because you go out there and do battle, doesnt mean you'll be a slurring mess by the end of your career.

    basically.

if he had actually seen Rios fight he would know for a pressure fighter his defense and head movement is pretty good.

I respect what he's saying, in wanting to be remembered in the love and adored way that most remember Gatti.

Before those call me, or others that agree with me, assholes for loving fighters like Gatti(in reference to a fighter going through brutal wars), , just know I personally don't want to see fighters unable to function after boxing. But fighters like Gatti gave fans his heart, and that old school warrior mentality is the reason they are loved.

(most) Gatti fans, didn't love watching Gatti because we wanted to see him hurt, we love him for what he was willing to give, and the heart he showed. If you wanna call bull****, fine, youre obviously not getting my point, and/or trying to troll.

Rios' can be a dick, and I will never look at him as I look at Gatti, but strictly based off of his last fight, my respect for him has jumped dramatically, and I look forward to seeing him in the ring soon.

its none of your business, its a boxers decision in what he wants to do, they're adults afterall.

perhaps you need to find a new sport which is a little less violent?

Boxing is not a game those boxers got out healthy and some of them were able to invest there money wisely good for them. Gatti was a fan favorite and brawler and look how he end up not being able to speak well and have all type of issues after he retire.
