Kelly Pavlik is done.

Barring a miracle, yeah, I agree. He'll get another shot at a big name at 168, but chances are he'll lose badly and become a "name" for fighters to put on their records.

let's assume this was a fight just to get rid of the rust,and let see how he performs again on his next fight.
i'll hate seen him gone because he was fun to watch,but with some technical limitations to stay on top.

 

Whether he can regain his old form remains to be seen.

But even if he does, his style is made to order for Froch, Kessler, Ward, and Bute. Even Andre Direll would outclass him.

He has no defense and can't deal with speed or movement. He should fight a few c or b level opponents and then cash out.

I wish he could still make 160. But then, he would have to beat Martinez, which is a bridge too far at this point.

 

Yeah, Pavlik's style is made for five different guys with five different styles :roll:.

He looked pretty dam good last week.
Great jab and solid check hook which worked all nite long.
Landed solid punches against an undefeated guy who was pretty shifty with a good solid chin.
I think alot of you were listening to those gearbox announcers who were pluggijng the other guy everytime he tried to do something which wasnt too often.

 

That was no inspiring performance.

Froch, Ward and Bute all toy with that Pavlik.

I'll give him one more chance, to see if he improves in his next outing. If he stays on the James Kirkland path (plateauing, looking continuously mediocre throughout his comeback and not progressing) we can expect him to get Ishida'ed at some point down the road.

 

:thumbsup Pavlik did a good job blocking Lopez' flurries and by the end he was cracking him with that hook.

 

Inspiring? No. He's shot/done? Even bigger no.

 

The problem is he should take at least another fight to improve and go back on track. But he doesnt seem to have the patience to do so. He already wants the big fight and I think he will loose any of those big fight right now.
