Sky commentary - a new low

Nelson talks some absolute bollocks indeed. McGuigan was right to call him out on that sheer garbage he was speaking.

 

He was negative from the start but in the beginning he was cagey but it appeared like he was trying to land a big counter/feeling Pac out. Mosley has a good chin but he can be hurt and when he is he often becomes negative ala Forrest, Mayweather and Pac fights.

Mosley did not come to win. Its ridiculous that he earnt the money he did and has the power he has and didn't try to win. It is simply because he did not want to run the risk of going out on his shield with the rewards being stopping Pac.

Deduct 50% of his purse and distribute it amongst the paying fans.

 

Couldn't agree more. Absolutely disgraceful commentary, worst I've ever witnessed.

At one point, I think around the mid-rounds, John Rawling said: "Mosley is embarrassing Pacquiao", despite the fact he'd lost every round convincingly, been dropped once, and barely landed any punches at all. yikes:yikes

Jim Watt is an embarrassment to our great Scottish nation. That cretin makes a comment at the start of the fight, and then spends the rest of the time repeating the same sentiment again and again and again and again... :dead He does it every single time on Sky, I have no idea why the higher-ups haven't pulled him aside and said "change the ****ing record you geriatric".

And it wouldn't even matter so much if the one thing he kept parroting like a maniac was a valid comment, but its predominantly utter dog**** with him. "Mosley is doing well, his tactics are spot-on, he's frustrating Packeeow, etc etc etc"... er, Jim, he's lost every round by a mile, and is embarrassing himself, the audience and the sport by jogging backwards and trying to run the clock down without getting hit. Open your eyes and call it FFS, it was one of THE most atrocious displays ever seen in a big fight!!

And the panel of analysts are dire as well. Some non-entity presenter with a permanent grin on his face who looks like he should be introducing late-night volleyball on Channel 5.

The grinning ego-maniac moron Johnny Nelson, who seems to have hit his head and think he's Eddie Futch, Muhammad Ali and Larry Merchant rolled into one. And Ricky Hatton, who brings all the personality and panache of a rotting cabbage.

The only one with a spark of passion and insight is Barry McGuigan. Get Buncey on there FFS. It's a horror show. Ian Darke should do all Sky's big fights and has much boxing as possible IMO. He is by far the best on these shores.
John Rawling is the worst commentator i've ever heard, the man is just too obvious, uses cliches far too often and can't think for himself. I even prefer Adam Smith to him.

 

Adam Smith should only be used for special occasions like Haloween.

 

I liked the Nelson vs. McGuigan banter. Keep McGuigan on, demote McCrory to lesser shows.

I don't think Nelson talks bollocks, just jumped the gun on this one. He raised a point that Pacquiao is getting older, and it's true, but all of the Sky team were guilty of holding Pacquiao to a high standard and blaming anything but Mosley on why the fight went that way. It was a fight where Pacquiao had to look good to make it a worthy fight after it was all said and done, but he wasn't able to do it.

Which fights has Ian Darke done? I get the three mixed up, they all sound similar, Smith less so.

Did Ian Darke do the Haye vs. Valuev fight? And Hatton vs. Mayweather? And Khan vs. Prescott? If so, he's the best one, definitely.

 

Yeah that's Darkey. He has been with Sky since day one and pretty much done all the big fights for the last 20 odd years. He is knowledgeable, tells it like it is and knows when to be dramatic and when not to be. If something stinks he will say it.
I also like him because he gave Lennox Lewis a fair go and appreciated him from the early days. He didn't give back-handed comments and make snidey remarks about Lewis, like the BBC, ITV and especially HBO!
I honestly think Ian Darke is the best boxing commentator to come from Britain, just wish SKY and Adam Smith would realise it.
I'm amazed John Rawling gets so much work. He is cringeworthy and really he just seems to have a basic knowledge of the game. When i hear the questions he asks overseas boxing people (Bob Arum, Bert Sugar), i really do cringe for him and get the feeling he makes us look bad, and comes across as a newbie. I understand he has to dumb it down for the mainstream but he knows no other way it seems. Ian Darke on the other hand strikes the perfect balance of educating, without alienating the general public.
Hey, John Rawling seems like a nice bloke, but has a boxing commentator he just doesn't cut it, i thought he might improve with time, but he has been around a few years now and he is still woeful.
I hope Adam Smith reads the forums, because it seems a lot of people aren't too happy with the set up at SKY at the moment. Understood it's a new regime and things take time, but he has to take things on board.
For instance, Buncey, McGuigan and Woodhall need to be permanent fixtures.

 

He's hardly on anymore cos he's left Sky and joined ESPN. Does Premier League commentary for their american channel, but apparently it was written in to his contract that Sky can have him back for the odd fight here and there.

I'd be very, very surprised if he doesn't do Haye v Wlad, especially as there won't be any football that day.

 

I didn't know that as i don't have ESPN anymore. Bit **** really! It seems Sky know his worth for the big fights though. I would expect him to do Haye/Wlad too. Thanks for the info.

Yep, I think it's been noticed before that I'm a Mayweather fan but that doesn't mean I don't recognise just how good Pacquiao is, the speed and power he generates is nothing short of incredible.

 

They need to freshen up the studio. The same guys all the time talking the same **** everytime. I could turn the sound of and know exactly what they are saying. Nelsons quote after the Perez-Manswell fight was cringeworthy.

Something on the line of "well weve seen the best guy in the tournament so far", no **** sherlock, its been the only fight so far.

I also didnt like the fact there were no pre fight interviews after Pacquiao-Mosley.

 

I cannot believe Jim Watt still has a job. He is the pits. He forms an opinion in the early rounds and repeats it every round until the end.

I also hate to fork out for a Sky subscription, then ppv, only to be told by Watt that the fight I'm watching is rubbish. Every round.

When is he going to have his 'Andy Gray moment' and do us all a favour. Surely Sky can do better than that?

On a side note, it was not truly live. I had two streams going, one showing the Sky coverage and one a Spanish channel in case the Sky went down. Sky were about 3 minutes behind time. Now that could just have been the stream, but it seems unlikely....I know the BBC used to get cheaper deals on athletics by showing races a minute behind truly live.

Is that the case here or was it just a delayed Sky stream?

Oh and Pac was disappointing, lack of any ideas, loading up on single shots, frustrated by simple lateral movement...

Mayweather would beat him by UD if they ever fought. Mosley was obviously poor but you cannot start deducting part of a purse for a poor showing or negative showing as it would set a terrible precedent. The Harrison-Haye fight is a bit different as he literally threw nothing for 2 rounds. But if a feint is enough to totally upset Pacs rhythm he would have nightmares with PBF.
