Tyson would be harder than Frazier for George, but I think 7 or 8 times out of 10, George would overpower him.
Foreman admitted to being afraid of Ken Norton. He also admitted to ducking Jerry Quarry. Foreman was hardly a machine!
Tough fight to call this one but if we're talking about the Tyson that KO'd Holmes in 4 rounds then I make it a 60-40 fight in Tyson's favour. Tyson wouldn't have been able to withstand as many of Foreman's punches as Ali did, naturally, but he wouldn't need to. His superior power (superior to Ali's) and his defensive abilities and speed would mean he would hit Foreman a lot in the early rounds and get inside of Foreman's wide looping punches. Tyson probably wins this one inside 6 rounds. A young Foreman was a wrecking ball of a puncher but was low on boxing ability and ring intelligence - he really was slow and lumbering. I think a prime Lennox Lewis beats young Foreman too. A prime Sonny Liston has a better shot at beating Tyson than a young Foreman does IMO.
Foreman was WAY more powerful, and was very possibly significantly stronger than Berbick. Also, he used his strength masterfully. And he was a considerably better fighter than Berbick. Berbick's durability is a bit overrated. He fought a lot of the big names of the 80s but he never fought the big punchers ... Weaver, Cooney, Bonecrusher etc. Bruno was a "murderous puncher" who proved rather incapable of knocking out any good world-class fighters. The best KO he ever scored was over a fat untrained Gerrie Coetzee who came over to London for the payday. Bruno didn't land a perfect punch IMO - he was tense and apprehensive through the whole fight. Bruno is so far below comparison with Foreman it's ridiculous. Bruno was a flakey manufactured fighter who couldn't really fight. Foreman was a natural fighter, a force of nature. Bruno would likely lose 5/5 to Ron Lyle, and he'd struggle like hell to beat Chuvalo - if at all. Foreman had holes in his defense but the reason Lyle could exploit that to such great effect is because Foreman didn't fight with the aggression and assertiveness he had done in the past. It was a bad performance from Foreman, really bad. His offense was lacking, and he was trying to change his style. And Lyle came to win. Still, Foreman won, and showed he could battle back from the brink of defeat to KO a decent opponent. Tyson never knocked out anyone remotely as good as Foreman. Foreman was knocked out once in his entire career - when he was out of gas, against a truly great fighter. Bruno stunned Tyson in round 1, as you showed. Tucker lifted Tyson off his feet with an uppercut in round 1. Tyson's likely to be stopped early by Foreman, IMO. Foreman is very unlikely to be stopped by anyone, as his record shows. What he brings to the table worked on guys like Frank Bruno and Tyrell Biggs and Michael Spinks. What Foreman brings to the table worked on Joe Frazier. There's a clue in there as to how these two compare.
Foreman is very easy to catch, he has absolute zero defense. Nortons catching him with jabs easily, however Tyson doesnt fight like that. This would be a close quarters type fight, Tyson may have to take 1-2 punches coming in, but he would be landing more leather than Foreman in close quarters and unlike Frazier, he would a) hurt foreman and b) lasted longer than frazier due to better durability, better defense and chin. For once, the longer the fight goes on, Tysons chances increase. Missing punches takes a lot out of a fighter and out of the 2, Foreman would be missing much more punches than Tyson would. Foreman doesnt fight like Douglas or Holyfield.
He writes Xpert posts :thumbsup Foreman Hook is right on the outcome of this fight. Tyson would be beaten up and KO'd in 1 or 2 rounds most likely.
I dont think it would be a wash by any means. Part of my posts are to give these guys a rise, but I think Tyson was better in his prime than George was in his. He was big and powerful but Tyson could handle that. George on the other hand would have a hard time dealing with Tyson's speed and power and would certainly create plenty of openings for prime Tyson to exploit.
patterson had the same style as tyson, the same trainer, and was even faster than tyson and like 10x times faster than liston. yet past prime liston annihalate him twice in one round.
I think Foreman would get hit a lot early. More than Lyle hit him for example. I think that Tyson would be getting hit very hard. I don't like Foreman early, at all, but I think Tyson might get it done early, like in four or five. If he doesn't, I think he would lose.
