Yeah, Haye's trash talking isn't anything great. It's all a bit boring and repetitive now but seriously the fight would be nowhere near as big if these two guys were respectful of each other - we as boxing fans would know it's a big fight but most people would think it's just another HW title fight.

    Huh?

Haye wasn't like this when started of, its a means to an end. Some fighters promote themselves one way, other fighters another way.

Theres no template where being nice and respectful gets you the big fights and big purses, its worked for Manny because he's exceptionally talented has been able to come through the hard times, take the odd loss and come though the other end. I don't think Haye wants, or is good enough for that type of career, he wants the quick route.

Hayes playing the personna that got him this far, that short cutted him to the WBA heavyweight title, that got the great deal against Wlad for this fight.

If he'd have been "nice" since his move up from Cruiser he'd be either waiting in line for a WBA shot or fighting a Klitscho for peanuts. He's played a part and its worked, he's world champ and fighting for huge purses.

Thats pro boxing, theres more that one way to get what the want. Manny did it one way, Haye is doing it another. But I tell you one thing, Haye going down the "Manny route" would not have worked in this situation as well as Haye insulting and goading the Kilts has....

Even if the fight would still be as big (which I very much doubt!) Haye would not be on 50% of the purse without all the stalking and winding up of Wlad. He'd be on the shitty end of the purse and having to give the Kiltschos options on his next 5 fights just in case he won.

Like him or loathe him, Haye has played a blinder over the last couple of years. He's moved up from Cruiser, got a quick shot at the WBA title, made a lot of money in 2 iffy defences, is now fighting Wlad under great terms for th "real" title and all on the back of having only 2 notable wins at heavweight, Valuev and Ruiz.......that wouldn't have happened without all the crap that Haye has come out with over the last few years and any who thinks thats not the case is being a little naive IMHO.

    Well thats my exact point.

he's not good enough to draw crowds and big purses simply by getting his head down, boxing and beating everyone around him. Instead he has to promote himself to the masses by talking bollocks and trash talking (badly), which is something I have always disliked about boxing, especially coming from boxers who have yet to prove a whole lot in the division they are fighting....

I'm pretty sure people ain't paying to go and watch a fight because David Haye said something in the build up. It all helps but they're going to watch him fight and at the moment he's providing something that they like.

So what do you want him to do considering you don't think he's good enough do it one way and don't like him doing it the other?

Isn't that bit "why it was better for him to wait before facing Wlad" and not "why it's good he acts like a spastic"?

I mean, he came to the division, and instead of making the bad deal with the Klits, he went and made a deal with Sauerland/King to fight Valuev, and he had to give options to those guys instead.

Having that title and getting Sky's backing is surely what has made him equal at the negotiating table, not his painful antics in pressers.

Well its about a 60-40 fight.

Of course he's good enough if he gets everything right on the night, I just want Wlad to win and I think he will.

I have no problem people stating they are going to win a fight and bigging themselves up to a certain degree, but he takes the biscuit and is really disrespectful, which i understand some people enjoy, but its not for me....

Bit of both probably. Sky backed him after he won the WBA belt and started getting under the Kiltschos skin with the PR antics. Its all means to and end, a bit of (pretty poor!) trash talking to promote a fight is neither here nor there in boxing.

There was a time when I would have agreed but for me, a bit of needle in the build up makes the fight a lot more interesting. I'd rather see this than Mosley and Pacquiao acting like best pals laughing and joking, touching gloves every 10 seconds and stopping just short of bum sex during their mutual love-in which people had paid good money to watch.

As much as I know that it's just about promoting the fight, I like to feel like there's more to be won and lost in a fight of this magnitude than "world titles" which are ten a penny these days.
