What should Mayweather do to Beat Pacquiao? Analysis

Styles make fights (obviously) and anyone ignorant enough to think JMM or Mosely alone are going to give us the key to this fight is ****ing ******ed. Just stop it. The last 17 or 18 of Manny's fights led me back to boxing once again after seeing Royce Gracie usher the MMA. Six years ago, I'd put my house on Floyd. Three years ago, I'd put my car on Floyd. Last year, I'd call it a pick em'. Now? I think Manny wins easily. What these last 3 fights proved to me is that Pacquaio can flat out dominate top flight, full fledged career welterweights WITH HIS POWER. And he doesn't even have to land consistently to control them. Just the threat of it after he lands is enough to completely change the complexion of these fights (which is amazing because he's able to keep his smaller man assets like speed, workrate and endurance but carries that power to an extreme). He has fast hands to begin with but the odd southpaw angles coupled with that power negates even greater speed. Mosely was scared AND lost. Its like none of these guys come equipped with a plan B and Manny forces a detour in every fight.

I think his power, speed and that straight left is enough to push Floyd out of that shoulder roll defense early and put him on his heels. Floyd hasn't had to fight that way in a while and I don't think he'll plan on it so we'll have another fight where Manny's power changes the pace and location early. If Floyd can adjust and potshot from the outside then it'll be a boring fight that Manny probably wins on workrate alone but if he doesn't adjust and hangs in the pocket, he might get stopped.

I give Floyd all the credit in the world for the Mosley fight even if he had to drain Mosley's blood but it doesn't change anything I said. Pac is absolutely the worst style matchup for Floyd since Castillo (albeit for different reasons).

  2. So Eggs tell me....Manny will win because Floyd is will fight afraid of his power? Really?

Doesn't Floyd fight scared, aka "extra cautious and defensive" in all of his fights? Science baby!

And besides, Manny hasn't fought a guy with above average defense.... ever. Manny hasn't fought a guy with above

average speed.... ever. The promoters are matching him up with the right guys at the right time. Forget Style matchups

even. Floyd skills are simply better than Manny's. Fact

Counter him & not get knocked out trying.
Land more effective punches, Get in a time machine and set it to 2008/2009.

yes lets have a thread where *****s can beat off to for a few hours saying he will counterpunch him and outbox him to a decision because of his superior skills.
Like it hasnt been said 10000x times already, in the end floyd isnt fighting anyone and has no plans of doing it soon either, but he keeps getting older during this process and so is waisting away his legacy.

Not at all. Lately he's been fighting a much more appealing (and subsequently effective) style. I've said as much plenty of times. Long gone are the days of Floyd the track star (consistently anyway). Ironically, it would be his best chance in this fight (come out with that style as option A and a world class gameplan) but I just don't think he'll fight that way.

As for Floyd being extra cautious, hmmmm not at all.

  6. Floyd would likely not try to walk down Pacquiao like he did Shane and Marquez. He'd fight him like he did De la Hoya and Baldomir. And he'd have an easy time, too, because Manny is there to be hit. Fact

The whole "Floyd's legs are gone" nonsense is just bologna created by haters looking for an excuse to hate on his attempt for a more crowd pleasing style. And people actually love him now better with his style. Fact.

Mosely didn't try to walk him down, either. Mosely got his **** pushed in trying to be defensive 90% of the time. I honestly think it was because he wasn't prepared to fight that way.

Like I said, if Uncle Rog puts him in track shoes for 6 months and banks on winning rounds on 3 or 4 counter right hands and some shifty legwork, he'll have his best chance. But I just can't imagine he'll fight this way at this point. I don't think his legs are gone, I just think he finally found a way to be in interesting fights and still win easily. And against most fighters I'm sure he feels its a safer style. And uses far less energy. Floyd is an extremely intellient fighter, but he's also the most arrogant human being on the planet. Interesting to see which wins out.

I think he'll tuck his chin behind his shoulder, lean to the right, pose for a second, then get cracked with that straight left pulling back and spend the next 6 or 7 rounds figuring out a better style to employ.

You asked for my opinion, I gave it to you.

Fight the same way, Pacqauio still hasn't proved hes good at fighting people who constantly turn him or stay on the back foot, until he figures out how to get inside without letting his guard down he'll be able to win.But none of them will be knocked out. This fight will be very anticipated, but ! it will be the most boring fight in the world. It will make Klitschko fights look amazing.

The only way for Mayweather to have a shot at winning is to actually take the fight. Until then who cares.
