If Rocky Marciano is so overrated, why has nobody else done what he did?

49-0 is perfect! I know that but if he had continued, he would have been defeated. Marciano didn't want lose his perfect record that's why he retired early.

Apart from record padding and beating old and past their prime fighters its very clear he avoided Patterson and Liston. Both hit the scene in 1952 and by 1956, the year Rocky retired Liston was 14-1 and Patterson was 29-1. Rocky still young at 32 suddenly retires. So yes he knew he was not retiring undefeated if he kept boxing, it was only a matter of time before these 2 young monsters got a shot at him. And he never faced a true 200+ lbs monster like Liston or Patterson. Patterson would destroy Moore for Marciano's vacant HW title that same year.

Interesting question. I'll answer honestly, it's the exact same number as Ali and Louis faced.

No, he retired mainly because he was getting ripped off in every fight.

Are you even paying attention to what you're saying? He avoided a 14-1 fighter in Liston who had his jaw broken already by a 180-pound journeyman? He avoided a light heavyweight who wasn't fighting at heavyweight in Patterson? He never faced a true 200+ monster like Liston and who? Patterson? You think Patterson is a "true 200+ lbs monster"? By the time Patterson even hit 200 even pounds it was 1967 and he'd been knocked out by Ingemar Johannson, Liston twice and Muhammad Ali! What the hell are you talking about?

32 was not young in that era and besides, he had recurring injury problems and chronic back pain.

Yeah, it wasn't young at all, Moore was the exception to the rule, as the BHOP of the times. And Rock was getting screwed out of a large portion of his purses by Al Weill and didn't want to put any more food on the guy's table with his blood and sweat.

    Ha ha, that's funny.

There aren't any comparions to be made between Marciano and Ali or Louis.

Ali and Louis are in a completely different class..

Only a moronic white supremacist would rank Gerry Conney above Walcott, Charles, and Archie Moore. Surprised you can post from behind your white sheets. :-(

So many boxers could learn from Marciano's hard work, which is what got him where he was................
