Leading With Your Dominant Hand.....

Is it worth the stance change? I know everyone is different but was wondering if a right hander would benefit more from being a southpaw and a left hander being orthodox.

You would probably have a shotgun jab and your lead hooks can be pretty devastating. Or would you ultimately end up being a one handed fighter?

 

Well, it worked for Cotto and Oscar. Another notable one is Donaire.

 

Depends, I say if you already started in one stance stick with it and perfect it.
Practicing & training in both tho wont hurt, If you have extra time to invest.
(It seems the be the new rage tho)

Look at current fighters like Ward/Dirrell, They can switch at will.

 

and Barrera.

 

It depends on the individual. On the whole most men would become virtual one arm fighters, but there is always exceptions. Being ambidextrous would help but not an easy adjustment for a lot of boxers.

 

good point. Yeah dirrell and ward seem to be pretty good switch hitters. Dirrell seems to be better at switching than Ward i believe.

 

i havent been trained to box but i have always felt more comfortable with my right as a lead (probably becuase of martial arts) im pretty sure they will teach me to fight orthodox though

 

If im not mistaken, did'nt tito do this to? Which is why his left hook was such an effective weapon.

I don't think Tito was left-handed like Oscar, Cotto and MAB. You don't see many right-handed guys fighting southpaw - I think maybe some left-handers fight orthodox because they were brought up fighting this way rather than making a conscious decision to change stance.

 

Ortiz is right handed fights southpaw. Ali was left handed

Andy Lee fights like that can it has served him pretty well.

 

Hes right handed but his power seems to be concentrated on his left. Its a missile Ortiz's straight left.

 

Nonito often shifts to southpaw.
But it's not of any help.

 

Morales tried to showboat by shifting to southpaw. He got tagged by Pac and abandoned the idea.
