decent fighter, very good from range. flattered by his win over mosley who was really a slugger with fast hands kind of like gamboa today. gamboa is obviously better than mosley ever was imo.

mayorga was able to rough him up and get to him psychologically when forrest was in his prime. not only did he KO him, he won a 12 round decision in a rematch. this is ricardo mayorga we are talking about. says it all really.

forrest was certainly a very good fighter but has become overrated.

Vernon was a damn good fighter at his peak. He beat at that time one of the best P4P fighters going at that time and beat him well.

He was not only a good fighter but a good man who done a lot for children with learning difficulties.

    Please.

Not an excellent boxer, but far, far, far away from being merely a slugger. He was fast, yes, but he also incorporated a lot of feints and was more of an accumulation puncher, despite his knockout ratio. That very brief explanation shows he was hardly a mere slugger, I don't think I even need to delve deeper as I take it you're just purposefully trying to be controversial.

Mosley was not an effective fighter from the outside. He was not the type of fighter who relied on a jab or outboxing his opponent. His footwork and feints were important to get him in position to throw fast shots and get out. he was not a technician in the truest sense of the word. perhaps slugger is not the best way to describe him but he wasn't as skilled a fighter as he was made out to be, especially on the outside.

Gamboa is superior to any version of Mosley, without the needs for PEDs.

Of course, but he was far from a slugger. Just because you aren't effective on the outside or don't possess a particularly special jab doesn't equate to you being a slugger. The technical aspects of his game are overstated, yes, but I think you overstated his deficiencies.

Guy this is a thread about Vernon and him as a fighter.

    His jab was class.

Lirva is way off in his Gamboa-Mosley comparison

But I'd say Shane was primarily an athletic slugger, fast hands, good chin.

Forrest seemed a bit inconsistent and phone in some performances. After the first Mayorga fight, his first fight in a big contract with HBO so he may well have taken him lightly, saw his edge go forever IMO.

I do think he looked good in the Mora rematch though. There were still some quality fights out there for him.

He looked f'n deadly in the first fight with Shane, I have never seen Shane look that ****ed since, Forrest catches him with accurate hooks and uppercuts that showed him in full flow. He could be lackidaisical though.

How do people on here score the second Mayorga fight?
