Many believed that the fight would not reach 1 million buys.

Pac fought Mosley after Mosley lost to Mayweather and drew with Mora, yet the fight seemed to draw at least 1.2M PPV buys.

If that's a "loss," I'm sure Arum is prepared to "fail" a whole bunch more.

Mayweather got Mosley right after he beat Margo. Different situation, from a promotion standpoint.

It has also been mentioned that Showtime does not possess the PPV infrastructure which HBO does. Finally, the social media and promotional effort behind Mosley/Mayweather was gigantic. And, they were two American fighters.

I recall in the build-up to the Mosley/Mayweather fight hearing someone connected to the promotion say something like they thought the fight might do 3 million or more buys.

The lasting lesson from Pac/Mosley seems to be that you can put Pac in with just about anyone and it's going to draw 1 million PPV buys. Except Clottey. But 3 of the last 4 Pac fights have done over 1 million PPV buys.

But thats no different to PBF who gets 1 mil + buys. From what I was reading CBS exposure and access to more homes was supposed to ensure the fight would do more than what it would of done on HBO?

Floyd v JMM drew 1 mil buys against the UFC on the same night.

The main difference is that one guy is fighting more regularly than the other guy, hence he's racking-up more PPV buys -- and more $$$ -- each year.

If you don't fight, you can't win. Including in PPV sales.

    just for arguments sake.

Hatton v PBF - over 1 mil UK PPV buys
Hatton v Pacquiao - 300,000 UK PPV buys.

Not even close but why the huge difference? Again I say people will pay to watch Mayweather even if they dont like him.
