About 3 hours ago I came to know that JM Marquez has agreed terms to fight Pacquaio, my understanding is the fight will be a catchweight of 144lbs.

Looks like it might be on after all

    Thanks,

But I don't think anyone has landed on the moon yet, so yep, i'll give you that one.

Marquez comes in at 138lbs and Pacquaio in at 144lbs, i reckon that will be the way to go...

No, it's not. Not until GBP does not match the contract.

My understanding is that GBP will offer Alvaro Salvarez as on option, to match the 5m that Top Rank have agreed to give Marquez??

If not, then Marquez fights Pacquiao?

144? Well once again this favors Manny. Manny can easily make 140/141 so thats where it should be. 144 is not meeting halfway.

Who would it favor if the fight was at 146?

    You mean Canelo Alvarez?

GBP will walk away from this deal and allow the Marquez-Pac fight.

Ortiz-JMM is an option but 5MM would be closer to the total fight purse and not the purse for Marquez.

Marquez-Pac is as good as done. :deal

I don't reckon the weight favours Pacquaio as peeps might seem to think, remember that 'stick' that fought those earlier fights??, yes, well I believe Pacquaio is a 143lbs fighter right now, that;s in good shape.

Marquez can't be heavy, no, he at best right now is a 137lbs fighter.

The question is how much can Marquez afford to close the gap in weight without being to heavy, but also without giving to much away.?.?

Just like it did with Floyd! My point being that JMM doesn't have a shot at beating PAC at any weight right now. 135 would be his best chance but even at that weight he loses. Did you feel as salty when Floyd fought JMM at a catch weight of 144....only to mis weight and come in 2 lbs heavier? Floyd and Manny at this stage and at this weight have no problems with Marquez. But JMM deserves a retirement check which is exactly what he'll be getting from his 3rd fight with PAC.

I dont think GBP would relegate Canelo to making 144 lbs......

Ortiz was being considered by GBP and imo they'd pull the trigger in making that match even if Ortiz got virtually paid nothing, but the reason it wont get made is the guaranteed rematch clause Arum has in the contract if Marquez should win........If Marquez should win, Marquez is guaranteed 10 million + a percentage of the PPV sales.

......so that throws the Ortiz matchup out the window.
Say if Marquez were to obliterate Ortiz in a noncompetitve fight, there is absolutely no way that a rematch would generate 1 million, much less 10 million.

The rematch clause guarantee makes it virtually impossible for GBP to match Arum's offer with any fighter that GBP has.
Marquez-Pacquiao 3 is going to happen.
