Very true. Theres lots of ways of defining big in this sense - how many watch it? how many PPVs? how good both are, how close the fight is, level of media interest etc.

For what its worth, for me Lewis-Tyson blows them all out of the water

I think it would have been bigger if they'd have done it last September. The Harrison fight really damaged Haye not only in the eyes of the fans but also the willingness of the press to cover him. A lot of nut huggers in the papers got exposed over that fight and either they or their editors are not keen to go through the same thing again.

How does the UK matter more than Germany?

Well, it was the first time the heavyweight undisputed title had been contested for 7 years. Holyfield was still at the peak of his fame. The biggest fight of Lewis's career - his big chance. And the rematch - well, that was even bigger.
Like you say, it IS very subjective.
Maybe I just don't rate Hatton enough to understand !

On a serious note uk does Ppv whereas Germany doesn't so I would guess uk has bigger potential revenues??

Hatton took 50,000 fans to Vegas when there were on 14,000 seats!! Has anyone ever done anything even near that?

Hatton-Mayweather was a massive fight, but if Haye actualy wins the press will go overboard and anyone who is sick of seeing Haye all over the press better not watch mutch tv or buy any newspapers. He got great coverage for beating Valuev if he beats Wlad it will be off the scale.

If he beats Wlad he will deserve all the attention he gets.

As a boxing fan i`m glad there is someone out there who can create hype and get people interested in the sport, unfortunately just being a good fighter doesn't cut it any more, just ask Carl Froch.

Its the first big heavyweight unification since the Lewis era and its been a long time coming. People are annoyed it took so long but by fight time it should be massive in western europe. I would expect a sellout crowd and maybe even 2 million ppv buys.

it seems like the people who dont know boxing just think that wlad is another valuev, had someone in the pub the other day saying how haye is gonna kill him because he beat valuev who was even bigger than wlad. i had to walk away
