Yes he was actually, the Nunn-Kalambay fight was widely considered to create a new lineage at MW, if you argue it didn't you certainly can't argue about Toney-McCallum being for the MW lineal title. Toney wanted Eubank/Benn at 168 who were making millions, while Toney was making much smaller purses, Benn/Eubanks promoters didn't really want to risk their cash cow against him then. Toney's main downfall was his lack of a run in the LHW division, when he completely dropped off the boil in what should have been his best division
yes it appears you're right! thanks. still would have liked to see him vs jackson. the problem was the divisonal top 5 consistently had barkley, nunn, benn and eubank. he obviously defeated barkley but never took on the others at SMW. blame game isn't neccessary, the fact is he didn't get the fights at the division. yeh I thought best to skip over his disasterous showing at the weight class, i try to remember fighters fondly for what they did do and he'll be remembered for his runs at MW and HW.
