Tonight we've seen a disgraceful piece of scoring from Ian John-Lewis and then treated to a brilliant battle in the Main event because of not only Webb's courage but also because of Victor Loughlin's understanding of the fight and the fact it was a British title fight.

This thread can be bumped rather then numerous threads which slate refs or praise them. Probably won't work but who knows..

Over the thread we will probably see who the best referee is because of praise.

We obviously know which ref's are shocking but really who is the best ref on a consistent basis?

    Howard Foster

If you can remember names of any more main referee's then please feel free to add to thread.

I was going to break the habit of a lifetime and start a thread on Victor Loughlins reffing tonight.

Despite Jim Watts (who I do like!!!) comments about stopping it earlier I thought he handled the contest superbly. Webb was hurt but never enough to warrant stopping the fight before the end which was perfectly timed IMHO.

Ian John-Lewis' call of a 2 points win for Dallas was poor, I had it a point for Page and the best I could possibly give for Dallas was a draw.

Im gonna sound like im jumping on the bandwagon but Ive thought for quite a while Victor Loughlin is the best ref in Britain. I remember discussing it with some esb members in germany for the Klit vs Haye/Chagaev fight. Although Loughlin did miss a knockdown tonight.
I usually like Howard Foster too but he pissed me off in a recent fight but I cant remember what one.
Terry O Connor and Richie Davies are the worst imo. Especially Davies, tries to be the star in some fights I think. Bit like Mercante Jr in the States

Funny you say that about Davies i felt that for a while as well. It's like he loves the camera's being on him and likes to put himself into the bout.

For me the best ref's are the ones you don't notice in saying that Richie does normally deal with **** like holding well and does know when right time to stop a fight is normally.

Yeah same I like Victor O'Louglan's refereeing the best I think. Was perfect tonight.

I know he could have stopped it earlier but if he had all we'd be getting now was how it might have been a premature stoppage and how Webb was clearly winning. I don't think Sam Webb will be seriously hurt from tonight and Prince Arron has gained massively from the fight going longer.

What was that fight quite recently (might have been a couple of years ago now) where Richie Davies constantly split them up and kept threatening to pull one of the boxers out for constant holding? :think

It was a difficult one tonight for Loughlin because Aaron was just throwing hard single shots or one twos he didnt jump on Webb and hit him with a real flurries to warrant a stoppage and the first time he did apply the pressure the ref stepped in so I think he did a great job. As for Ian John-Lewis he shouldnt be allowed into a boxing arena, how he got the Hopkins Pascal fight is beyond me!

    Cheers Roe :good

Keane goes under the radar a bit doesn't he really. He's steady. The bottom 3 is right for me as well. Although give and take who goes bottom...suppose O'Connor would be bottom for me. Always looks disinterested.
