Fair play to him for coming on and replying. If that's the case that he only gets a minute and a half, **** poor really.... he ought to have much longer, five minutes if necessary. Sky do lots of things right in their boxing coverage and are improving steadily, but there's just certain things they get wrong. Robinson is a good interviewer and asks proper questions (unlike Jeff Shreeves for instance on the footy) - give him more time. It'll make fans take ownership of a fighter if he comes across well in a post fight interview, win or lose. Stephen Smith is a very good example.
That's fair enough, I didnt expect you to comment, but I appreciate you taking the time to put across your rationale. I got the impression from previous interviews that when a boxer starts to thank a sponsor, then fair enough I can understand when you do that. There are times when a boxer might want to thank someone personal or dedicate their victory to someone special etc - in that case it would be nice to let them do that, I think they have earned it. But, I can understand better your position, and I take back my indirect inference that you were in some way disrespectful to boxers - I know you have had a few pro fights yourself, so you will appreciate as much as anyone, what they put into their profession. :good
Be interesting to see how much of the programme is wasted on the studio waffle, they could fit more post fight comments and I dare say some undercard footage at the expense of some of the analysis
ed i was a big fan but you embarrass yourself on ringside by talking like a robot when giving the news mate
That is a good point and this is good constructive feedback for Sky. We have learned something new here, Ed only get 1 1/2 mins he deserves more time with the fighter and trainer post fight. Last night's fight was probably the best domestic fight of the year so far, so a bit more slack in time for post fight interviews was definitely warranted.
Its disgraceful that he gets 1 minute and a half to interview the fighter and trainer. WTF are you supposed to accomplish in 90 seconds under pressure? complete and utter disgrace. What the **** is Sky's endgame? I'd rather hear from the participant than Johnny Nelson talking cryptic bollocks in the studio. They are weird ****s at Sky.
Yeah, probably too much. What they could do is do their normal production with the studio analysis but extend the post-fight interviews.... and have the full undercard on the red button on tape delay for people that would rather watch that. They film everything anyway, it's only a minor cosmetic change to their coverage that would add a lot I feel.
Personally I think they should give the boxing an extra 30 mins. That way they could properly analyze fights, do a proper interview and maybe have 15 mins extra for more comprehensive coverage of the undercards, 30 mins doesn't sound a lot but would make a tremendous difference. Whats it really cutting into at 12am? Carp fishing? Mongy ****s.
Thing is its not like football where they only have one 90 minute event to show footage of and can debate it to death an hour before and an hour after, a Boxing card has multiple events and I feel could do with less analysis and more footage. 2 fights totalling 24mins and just under 36 mins in a 2 hour programme? too much waffle in my opinion
You're forgetting the ad breaks and round breaks. There isn't that much analysis taking place, and its not of a high enough quality either due to the people doing it. A proper boxing match with a decent undercard fight or two needs more than 2 hours.
Yeah true forgot about thoseatsch Still I'm sure if you ask boxing fans would they rather listen to Johnny Nelson or see more boxing footage then the answer should be obvious. It needs more than 2 hours like you say
