In 20 years, looking back on the Pac-Floyd saga..

The blood test demands will be seen for what they are. One man's excuse for for not getting in the ring with top opposition.
Seriously. In 20 years people will look back and say, "hey, no one else ever demanded such a thing, and the guy he demanded it from never once failed a drug test, and just happened to be the most dangerous and worthy challenger Floyd could face."

Then they will also realize that after moving beyond 135 pounds, he failed to fight any, not one, top challenger available. They'll realize he failed to fight Kostya Tszyu, Miguel Cotto, Vivian Harris, Zab Judah or Shamba Mitchell at 140. While settling for Arturo Gatti, Henry Bruseles and Demarcus Corley.

They'll realize that he failed to fight Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto, Joshua Clottey, Andre Berto, Paul Williams and Manny Pacquiao and 147.
While settling for Zab Judah, Carlos Baldomir, Shamba, faded Mosley and lightweight (not to mention already Pac-vanquished) Marquez.

Again, I'm talking 20 years of hindsight. Will all the excuses being made now by the loyal floyd fans mean anything when we look back how Floyd (who reached the rare level of being his own promoter) took such an obvious "safety first" approach to his matchmaking.
Today, the floyd fans have an excuse for each of these individual matches failing to materialize. In 20 years, when people look at his career as a whole, I believe his legacy will very dubious, and certainly not anywhere near the GOAT conversation.

How do you arrive at this conclusion? What about asking for blood testing is an excuse...you are aware prior to the first negotiations that Roach stated on video that "they" would take whatever tests Floyd wanted and that testing wouldn't be an issue, so how would Floyd have known Manny would reject testing?

Not many people years on talk about the fighters Sugar Ray Robinson, Ray Leonard missed out on, same will likely be true of Mayweather, it will be forgot, especially if he pulls out another huge win

There are some pretty good fighters Leonard didn't fight, but he did fight the beasts of his era. Benitez, Hearns, Duran and Hagler.
Floyd has only fought the "pretty good" guys, and failed to fight any of the beasts. That will be noted.

First of all, that's not the point. Like I said, Floyd fans have excuses for each individual fight failed to materialize. I'm talking on the whole. He failed to fight waaaay too many top dogs, and all that combined will shine a dubious light on his career.

But to answer the question: Whatever Roach may have said, I doubt he had in mind a demand that had never been demanded in the history of boxing, especially for a guy that had never failed a test. If someone wanted to demand it of Roy Jones or Shane Mosley or James Toney, it would be more understandable.

The public's call/demand for Pac-Mayweather is much bigger than something like Burley-Robinson or Pryor-Leonard... Not really a great comparison.

In 20 years hopefully random blood testing will be the norm in boxing. People will ask why didn't Pacquiao just agree to them. Pacquiao's excuses may work on his legions on fan boys but i doubt history will look too favourably on him over this whole saga.

You forgot Floyds demand for $100 million after Pac said he will take the test.

One man wanted no part of the other and for some reason, the other guy refused the tests.

    This.

20 years from now, all people will see is that the potential biggest fight in boxing history did not happen because one fighter did not want to agree to full random blood testing.

Mayweather's position (wanting the testing) will hold up much better than Pac's (not wanting testing - for whatever reason) as the years go by and this sort of testing becomes much more standard.

the drug test issue will be long forgotten. pac will be remembered as one of the ATGs. and floyd will be remembered as the only boxer in that era who couldve beaten pacman but didnt have enough courage to try.

in 20 years, people will not talk about the drug test. They will talk about what happened inside the ring during both their careers, and say that Pac was the better fighter.

Steroids are a big deal in other sports. Just not boxing. I can name drop a few fighters who I think been roiding as of late not named pacquiao. Certain things a fighter cant change. You cant change your whole demeanor as a person or in the ring. At least not go from quiting when you get hit hard to coming back and fighting through being punched harder and walking through it like a terminator. At least Pac was always had the same demeanor in the ring. I think he is roiding, but he would still beat most of the dudes he fought with or without.

something interesting I just read is that NSAC does year round random testing for every MMA fighter who has a license to fight in Nevada, and they've been doing that for years. They should do the same for boxing.
