Best era of domestic heavyweights?

    The current heavyweight division is hotting up domestically with a number of names all on a collision course. There is a decent mix of proven fighters and top level prospects where will it ultimately rank amongst these other great domestic heavyweight era's?

    Lewis, Bruno, Akinwande, Hide - I cannot envisage the early-mid 90's being bettered in my lifetime.

    Yep, the early 90s were amazing for HW boxing in general really.

    I still think Bruno is grossly underrated.

    I was talking about him in the pub with a few blokes last night and they pretty much all said he was a nice bloke that could knock over roadsweepers but would always lose to the best guys.

    Grrrrrrr :lol:

    Though they did agree that he'd be the 2nd best HW in the current scene. But we disagreed on the #1. I'll take my leave before I say something daft :nut

    Ive deliberately left out Bruno and Haye. Haye because he obviously isnt competing at domestic level and Bruno because during the early 90's when those names were around he didn't engage in any domestic battles. He didnt fight Lewis or Mason for the British

    Im talking strictly era's defined by who was operating at domestic level during a certain time

    Fair enough, that's what I thought, but assumed Lewis-Bruno might fall under that banner :good

    I suppose it could be classified as that. Its the fact Bruno from 89 to the 93 fight with Lewis fought entirely foreign opposition.

    Early 90s anyway....LEWIS, BRUNO, MASON, HIDE....3 WORLD cHAMPS RIGHT THERE.

    No, I don't think he did and most (including myself) thought wrongly that wrimc meant which era was the best for domestic heavyweights, and not which era had the best domestic fights/scene.

    Bruno did fight Lennox (for a 'world' title), but that was the only British fighter he fought in the 90's which does back up wrimc's claim that Bruno wasn't campaigning at domestic level. So for the purposes of this thread, he was right to leave him out IMO.

    No Kos has it right we are talking about era's where heavyweights were fighting each other at domestic level.

    Bruno did fight Lewis but in a world title fight. All of those mentioned either held or fought for the British title at some point during that particular era.
