If Cotto was "damaged goods" post-Margo, wouldn't he have crumbled vs Clottey?

Before he ran into Manny Pacquiao, we all knew what Joshua Clottey was. One of the toughest SOBs in the game, iron chin, excellent defence, exceptional physical strength, a true grinder in every sense of the word who would wear you down with his persistence, determination, meaty bodyshots and unforgiving uppercuts.

That's how he made Zab Judah quit.

Now if Miguel Cotto was "damaged goods" after the Margarito fight, wouldn't he have shown this "damage" once he (a) suffered a horrendous cut which badly affected his vision, and (b) got involved in a dogfight with a heavier, stronger fighter that he couldn't knock out (much like Margo was)?

To say someone is "damaged goods" means they are somehow a lesser fighter than they were before this "damage" occurred. If Cotto was a lesser fighter, wouldn't he have either (a) got beat, or (b) quit, once things turned against him and got tough vs Clottey?

But Cotto dug deep, never lost belief, never tried to use his injury to bail out (like Zab), took the pain, took the injury, took the pressure, and produced a good display mixing fighting and boxing to pull out the victory.

"Damaged goods" would not have had the strength (mental or physical) to pull through in this situation.

(also the whole "damaged goods" thing is ****ing bull**** anyway. Kostya Tszyu got stopped in 10 rounds by Vince Phillips, came back and had a long unbeaten reign as lww champion, Marco Antonio Barrera got stopped in 5 by Junior Jones, came back and became a 3-weight world champion. "Damaged goods" = stupid myth except in very rare circumstances such as Duran-Moore)

Not to mention that Clottey can't make anyone crumble.
Edit: Clottey has had 1 TKO since Clinton was in office. My bad.

"Clottey always finds a way to lose his biggest fights" :deal

Bad argument. You should instead bring up Cotto still being a pick-em fight with many posters here at the time, as well as him actually being on the P4P lists prior to the fight.

Clottey doesn't have an Iron Chin. He has been knocked down by a Jab before which is the ultimate disgrace in Boxing.

I guess you didn't see him run for his life and Clottey take his foot off the pedal at the end.

A prime Cotto wouldn't have had nearly as many problems with Clottey as the slightly past it one did. Don't kid yourself.

Why did Pac fight Cotto at a catch weight and not Clottey?

The wanted to test Pac's strength at WW. DLH wasn't a good enough test. After he won, the other WW fights were at 147.

Perhaps you should watch Cotto-Margarito again.

 if Clottey was really as good as you try and and make him out to be he'd be ****ing Sugar Ray Robinson... and fact is Cotto hardly made it through that fight. This so-called "tough SOB" of yours never pressed his advantage and tried to KO Cotto when he was most vulnerable and exhausted in those middle rounds. This Clottey hard ass of yours has proven to be very weak mentally time and time and again.

    I thought Cotto lost plus

Cotto was on the retreat cut bad and ate some bad shots

Clottey had it in the bag and blew it by taking his foot off the gas

plus Cotto was beat up a little combo that with Margo and he was damaged but not shot

and take into account the shitty corner that couldnt give him advice in the middle rounds when Manny came on

Even the version of Cotto who fought Clottey that night would've beat Joshua all over the ring if he had just fought the correct gameplan from the start and gone right after him from the get go. Clottey always retreats to his shell and quits fighting back as hard when someone takes the fight to him and begins to back him up.:deal
