He lost to Donaire in 8 last year but it was clear even back then that he had real talent and a strong will. Against Donaire he was only 21yo so it is fair to say that he had virtually no chance but I went as far as the 8th round. He is now fighting at 112 instead of 115 and it was a wise move since he became world champ last month by beating a hard hitting guy in Luis Concepcion in Panama in a brutal fight: the 1st four rounds were incredible then he took over I thought but making Concepcion turn and stopping him in the 11th. Marquez does not look like but he is a fearless fighter; he got skills and a good team around him. A fight vs Segura would be a war!! He will be in many battles I'm sure so if you don't know about him check him out. Got the feeling that he will only improve.
The Donaire loss is excusable. The Mepranum loss is not. Marquez had no business losing to that bum. Mepranum has NO boxing skills, but Tyson let him dictate the pace and force the action. He's very talented and tough, but inconsistent as hell. Even in the Concepcion fight he had many lapses where he just allowed Luis to take over. When he puts it all together and is mentally "there" he's a joy to watch. :good
Haven't seen the Mepranum loss. Gonna check it out today. Thanks for the heads up. I like to watch the off performances just to see what to expect from a fighter on his bad day.
He was just too inactive. He lost on pure hustle. I had expected him to shut out Mepranum, or KO him. :verysad
You damn right that a fight with Segura would be great. That would be a hell of a war! With Marquez's exciting win over Conception and exposure from his gutsy loss to Donaire and the enormous aount of press Segura has received with the two fights over Calderon I'm sure Showtime would pick up the fight.
Oh indeed!! Easy fight to make also as both guys aren't afraid to face anyone. Btw Roman Gonzalez would be a ****in fight too. But not enough exposure currently..which is a shame since this guy a the real deal IMO.
:good Sums it up well. I hate it when he goes on cruise control and is inactive. Inconsistent a good word.
Roman Gonzalez is in over his head against true solid flyweights like Segura and Marquez, IMO. He looked fantastic at strawweight, but got all he could handle from Manuel Vargas upon moving up...and Vargas isn't on the level of a Marquez or Segura.
