Ward reminds me of MMA fighter Georges St. Pierre: Fights not to lose versus letting it all hang out.

It works, but isn't fun to watch.

    Totally agree.

He's worse than Wladimir Klitschko. And that's gotta mean something. Klitschko will only hold if an opponent gets dangerous. The rest of the way he jabs cleanly. Ward probably holds, wrestles and headbutts the heavy bag.

The referee has to break them from that position though. You can't punch out of a clinch when one guy is holding the other around the waist, which is what Ward did time and time again. It was clinching to ensure it had to be broken up, not regularly clinching which can be left for the fighters to punch their way out.

Exactly. It's a winning strategy, but one that's not going to earn many fans.

You should watch the fight again.

Why the **** would Abraham be the one attacking and then grab and hold? It's a defensive tactic.

Yeah, I don't want a boxing clinic. I want a fight. And Ward is objectively boring. This is not star power. This is an ugly style of fighting that is not pleasing to watch as a fan. And let me just say that I think Floyd is beautiful to watch. A dick, but awesome to watch. Andre? What can I say. Booooooring.

Klitschko is no ATG, but he knocks dudes out. And he doesn't hold. He throws punches that hurt. Sometimes, he gets hurt. Whatever. He puts on more satisfying fights.

They didn't need to be broken up time and time again, they could have worked themselves out of said clinches if given the opportunity to. But instead of the ref giving them that extra second, he jumped straight in. Rewatch it, the ref is ready to pounce at any chance he got...he was positioning himself to stop in-fighting as soon as possible.

Of course there were times when he was correct in breaking them, and it was mainly Ward clinching...but there were times when they had worked their way out of the clinch, yet the ref still stopped them, shouted his bull**** "No punching!"...then let them continue. The ref was ****.
