Mom black Dad white. His dad was the boxer in the family and got Andre interested in the sport at a young age. Andre is a class act and I believe hated more for his SOG nickname than whether he's black or white. In any case, he totally outclassed AA and I expect him to dominate for the next several years :good
Doesn't matter if his dad is white just like it doesn't matter if his mom were white and dad was black like Derek Jeter, he is still a black American. As for the SOG name, no one is mad about that, so to even throw that out is ridiculous.
I freely admit Ward will never be a megastar because of his style. Doesnt stop me from appreciating him as a role model and boxing craftsmen. Did you see me bigging up Paul Williams when he was undefeated? No I dont like that style. I love hit and not get hit. I love boxers.
I know, but you know its the one drop rule bro. Not fair, but thats how it is. Alot of the Europeans dont like him, and its not because of his style. They LOVED Hatton.
You have to understand: This is what is known as a strawman argument. The point, in this instance, is not to try to substantiate that many people dislike Ward (or Ward's style) or discuss why they dislike Ward. That's not the purpose of the thread. The purpose of the thread is to have people come in -- people who actually like Ward, apparently -- and claim that the real reason why people dislike Ward is because he's a black American beating white/European fighters. And then, those who like Ward get to pat each other on the back for "recognizing" and "showing" that this is the real reason why Ward is disliked. All while celebrating Ward's boxing dominance over the whites/Euros. The entire thread is a bait. And it is playing out exactly as one would expect. You can choose to participate in the thread, but you should probably understand what the real game here is.
Yeah, can't disagree too much. He's far better, more skilled, and more exciting than Wlad "The Robot" Klitschko. But this guy is one of the most revered fighters on the board. Go figure. Wait till someone responds by saying Wlad has KO power and can punch. Yeah sure, he punishes guys he can take out inside the first 4 rounds for 12 rounds and then knocks them out. Great stuff. Ward can't punch like that, it's not his fault. Yet, I've heard people say Ward takes no chances. Plays it "safe." Mostly all Wlad fans. Go ****ing figure. It's ignorance man, plain and simple. Also, watch them say that Ward is dirtier and holds more than Wlad too. I've already seen enough of that nonsense.
Thats the thing. I dont even hate Wlad even though he's boring as ****. If he can win being boring, so be it. Its not me in the ring. I aint paying for his ****, but I aint gonna hate on him either. Ward is far more exciting then Wlad though.
Fair enough. :good You know I understand how things work, though, from the larger picture here. Everyone knew a thread like this was coming, just as fans of other fighters make similar threads in similar circumstances. Just ask the anti-Klits, anti-Calzaghes and anti-Pacs. Nothing wrong with people liking people who are similar to them. That seems part of human nature. As long as it doesn't get out of hand.
Yeah thats why Sergio Martinez is my third favorite fighter. We're both Argentinian and both can do the macarena.
Tell me the last time Wlad was accused of deliberately headbutting an opponent, or multiple opponents? When is the last time you saw Wlad wrestle -- not hold, wrestle -- with an opponent for defensive purposes? Don't try to deny reality. Your arguments only become weaker then.
it's always ego on the board. people purposely attach themselves to these type of fighters and protect them not because they really love the fighter but because it makes them feel like they understand something more by being excited about a boring fighter who only a person that has real knowledge can appreciate and when another does not appreciate them just as you said they lay the bait to bash which is the real reason they root for the fighter to being with. You are a smart man. I get what u are saying big time. :good
in terms of peronality ward is very likable. he seems like a nice kid and comes across as humble and smart. but in the ring he can be quite boring.
Thanks :good This isn't necessarily so much about ego (or maybe it is, I could be wrong), it's about broader human psychology. People are drawn to others like them, and they want "their guy" to be the best. So when it looks like he/she is the best -- better than all the other guys from the different groups -- you will get this kind of thing. Could be sports, could be making money, could be anything. It's just part of human nature, apparently, for whatever reason. To be fair, this behavior isn't isolated to American fans, as I tried to point out. We have all seen the "Why Cant Any American Beat The Klitschkos?," taunting threads after one of the Klitschkos defeat another challenger. And other, similar ones for different fighters. Everyone does this, or is susceptible to doing it. It's not just one group of people. That's why I wrote that the making of this thread was inevitable. And the reverse is true, too, when a highly touted guy of some country or race is beaten: The joyful "Exposed!" threads immediately appear. It all comes back to the same mental traits or tendencies.
I don't find him that boring to be honest. His skills are to marvel at. In-fighting, and an overall package showcasing some versatility is such a rarity these days. If you've studied the sport you'd see we had better fighters, in better eras than today (I am speaking generally, not directed at you). AW is a throwback to the classics in many ways IMHO. I appreciate that. Wlad is far more boring, and far more limited when he doesn't have to be. I've heard a lot of nonsense of Ward being a safety first "take no chances" fighter. The guy doesn't stick his face out there to get hit, he's a crafty, smart, technical IN-fighter. Fighters that move forward to in-fight automatically take chances by nature.
