In their trilogy with each other, both Tony Zale and Rocky Graziano got up from being decked to win their respective bouts.

Tyson simply didnt answer back because he was beaten and he was out of gas. And holyfield still couldnt knock him down

I saw Tyson looking to quit once he got knocked down. He purposely tried to ram his head into Holyfield and open up his cut so the fight would be stopped. Tyson was just getting flat out beat up and didnt have the goods anymore to answer back. Like hes said, he was a spoiled brat, he didnt have the fighters gut or the skills anymore and it was apparent, because the knockdown was more of a slip, but mentally it wrecked him.

Yes, because getting thrashed for 10-11 rounds is worse than getting knocked down from a single punch (providing there's ability to recover from that punch).

Maybe Tyson should have gone down a couple of times to get himself together instead of remaining on his feet taking a beating ? I don't know.

To be honest, I don't take either side of this argument seriously. Getting up to win is good - well, it's better than getting up to lose .... but as you point out fighters who go down from single punches more often get more chances to get up.
however, where your argument falls is you concentrating on Tyson taking a beating. Taking a beating from Buster Douglas is not a good thing, whatever way you slice it.

Well, I've only heard people say he never got up to win a fight - which is true. He got up and lost. It is what it is.

True, he never got up to win a fight, but how many times was he down? about 3? Douglas, Holyfield and Lewis?

Id rather get thrashed for 10-11 rounds than go down from one punch and never wake up ala Lewis.

And Danny Williams. (But we can discount that)

Yeah, it's not a bad record at all. Tyson was hard to knock down. So was Lennox Lewis.

In fairness 'old man' Tyson was younger than Lewis, a fact rarely mentioned.

As for Holyfield, i dont think he struggled twice at all. In fact, i had him winning the first fight by a substantial margin.

Not an ATG but certainly worthy of a mention here , is flyweight champ Dave 'boy' McAuley. Guy seemed to get put down in every fight he had and always got back up, and more often than not, won.

Jose L. Ramirez and Juan "Kid" Mesa are NOT true ring greats but, both did get up off the floor to roar back and score KO's over "Rosario & Garza" in epic fashion back around 1984... Plus, Bus Douglas got up to hammer Tyson into defeat in rd. 10.... Point being, good comebacks in a fight nonetheless...

Raymond Leonard got up to TKO Howard in '84, and also got up 2X to draw with Hearns in '89...

Duran got up in '74 to stop Dejesus in Panama...

Arguello was decked by Ganigan in '82, but came on to stop Ganigan...

Holyfield was decked into the ropes by Cooper in '92...

B-Hops was dropped by Pascall last Dec. and got shafted with a draw....
