I think he's just a bit crap at this level. Literally all he has is a punch, and even that punch has a very short duration because he'll blow his load if he tries too much. At this level, thats all he is...a puncher. He can't win rounds against anyone. Unfortunately in this case the word exposed is pretty apt.
I quite like Abraham. You've got to respect him for moving up from MW to SMW and wanting to fight the best out there. He could of moved upto SMW and not joined the Super Six and got some more decision's or KO's in Germany, but he wanted to fight the best... But he failed. End of really. Fair enough he's a lot smaller than the other SMW's around but he knew that when he was moving up. Wether he's shot, or his mind isn't right nomore, only he know's that so whatever decision he make's now will decide the rest of his career. I just wish more fighter's had the mindset he has and want to fight the best
I was picking Abraham to get to the final too, I was convinced his power would be too much for most, I remember being concerned before the Froch fight even than Froch would bang it out with him.
i can see him retiring within the next year even in germany no1 will be willing to watch him all that undefeated crap went out of the window
German's don't care about undefeated. Look at the big ticket sellers over there; Sturm, Sylvester, Klitschko's, Huck etc. None are undefeated. It's titles they seem to be more attracted to.
Too small and certainly too limited in the skills department to compete with the Super middles at this elite level.Still a force in Euro type title fights,but the world title glory days are over.
Thing that i don't get with AA is he was complaining of being ill and weight drained towards end of Middleweight reign then all of a sudden he goes up to 168lbs and loses a few and could now make the weight. If anyone saw him against Oral and few others he was really drawn and everyone was calling for him to jump to 168lbs cos he was like a corpse at 160lbs.
Abraham has such a unique physique very big and very stocky but also at SMW almost a little bit fleshy? Maybe he was too muscled at middleweight but was too small to be a decent sized SMW caught between two stools.
Yeah I thought the same, defintely fleshy at 168, clearly the 'smaller man' against Froch and Ward Lost a lot of his lustre when he moved up IMO The blueprint to beat him seemed so obvious, but he'd explode 2-3 times a round and it worked. As the fights wore on he took over. However these bigger guys don't fear those explosive bursts, they just hit him back harder when he comes out of his shell.
Wayne Elcock outboxed him for a few rounds until his stamina caught up with him. So he was always a hype job.
I think this too I really wasnt impressed after the taylor fight either tbh, but a lot of people were raving about him after that and I assumed they were just seeing somehting I couldnt but it hasnt turned out like that. I think at this level, he needs the opposition to lose to him rather than him win the fight if you know what I mean. IE he needs them to either tire themselves out completely by innefectively hitting his guard or walk onto a big shot, if they do neither of those things he seems pretty screwed
First off his big advantage at middleweight was power, he was never fast but when he did tire opponents in the latter rounds he could put them away when he started to land of a increasingly less mobile target, that hasn't been the case against these bigger guys. He's also had more problem closing the distance against guys who are taller with a longer reach than him to land his power shots. But mostly I think his problem has been a mental thing. He was built up in Germany to be invincible, his opposition wasn't great, but he smashed them all and must have really beleived he was invincible. Then when guys stopped standing still for him to hit them and hit him back his belief in himself evaporated and he stopped doing anything more than show up and hope for a miracle.
