How does the qualifers work for the olympics work out. For the Euro do the winners get a ticket to the Olympics. Or is that only for the Worlds that get the place at the Olympics. Anyhow good luck to all the lads going over for the Euros its the really only high point in Irish sport and the money invested in the lads is a must for years to come.
Just the Worlds and one other tourney(later) so the Euros is for experience and of course medals. It's probably easier to sneak a bronze in the Olympics than the Euros.
In that case it's only fair to send the national champions to the Euros. But the box-offs for the worlds will be very interesting. As i earlier said, there could definitely be a few upsets. Whatever about Nolan and Mcdonagh holding onto their spots, o' Neill and conlon could definitely struggle too. I agree about the medal situation too. An easy draw in the olympics could mean only 1 hard fight to get to the semi's. But in the Euros a boxer will have at least 2 difficult ones to get there

Checa's experience hopfully will take Luke to the next level. An unlicenced show took place in Bangor, north Down on Friday. Former good amateurs Shaun McKimm and Paul Moffet were on this bill. By all accounts it was a terrific night and the crowd thorourghly the action. But I often wonder why promoters of such events don't get themselves sanctioned by the governing bodies.
Henry Coyle and Spike are boxing this week and their opponents will have a combined record of 9 wins 64 losses, now i know these are supposed to be keep busy fights but come on..... Granted Splike is coming off a long lay off and Clark is a tough enough dude but surely they could have got better and Coyle well i dont know whats going on there, its billed as Andy Lee and Coyle headlining but Henry goes in against this guy with is 8-32 record doesnt say a lot for his development or willingness to test himself just a little..

I like that boxing ireland covers fighters of irish heritage and descent as well as our normal Irish fighters, but it would be great if some of the irish-Americans could get a bit of exposure from boxing-ireland. I know ye keep us well informed on the British-Irish boxers coming up, but I know little of the American-Irish prospects like Danny O connor and a few others. Thats not to say that ye havent already covered some of the irish-Americans, just that it would be good if you could do it a bit more
Lee ready for Bunema showdown Monday, 16 May 2011 19:31 Andy Lee, Irish Kronk middleweight fighter, currently ranked number three in the WBA , number nine in the WBC and number 13 in the WBO rankings, will be in action against Alex 'The Technician ' Bunema this Wednesday evening 18 May at the Donald E Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois, United States. Lee (25-1, 19 KOs) will be aiming for knock-out number 20 on his career record sheet as he trades punches with the tough and durable Alex Bunema (31-7-2, 17 KOs) in a ten-round battle for the NABF and NABA Middleweight Championship titles. Bunema has faced formidable opponents in the past including Sergio Martinez, Jermain Taylor, Kassim Ouma and Bronco McKart and he also holds wins over former world champions Roman Karmazin and Vince Phillips. As Lee pursues his world title ambitions, he plans to consolidate his position in the world rankings by staying busy and gaining valuable experience on his way to the title. Lee has been training at the Detroit Kronk Gym since his successful win against the formerly unbeaten Craig McEwan. Lee commented: 'I'm hungry and ready for fight night on Wednesday; my preparations have gone really well with plenty of sparring, roadwork and gym work. 'I'm in excellent shape to beat him and will put on a good performance for the fans and capture the NABF and NABA titles.' Lee's manager and trainer Emanuel Steward commented: 'Andy has trained hard for the fight and we have added a little extra strength and conditioning to his preparations for the fight, so he is ready and prepared for action. 'Alex Bunema has plenty of experience, but Andy has had 26 fights now and he is becoming an experienced fighter with power and technical skill. I expect a competitive fight with Andy winning by KO.' Fitz gets WBA ranking boost 17 May 2011 - Jonny Stapleton EBA Champion Anthony Fitzgerald has been named as the eleventh best middleweight on the planet by the WBA. The Pride is now just one ranking shy of boasting a top ten world status after the South American based governing body moved him one rung up their ranking's ladder. However despite boasting his best ever middleweight standing, Fitzgerald, who was crowned Irish Champion of the Year in January for regularly defending his super middleweight domestic strap, is ironically enduring the worst lull in his career. Despite being called out by fellow Irish middle weight contender Andy Lee and former WBO world champion Bronco McKart the Pride is struggling to secure what could prove a breakthrough fight. Fitzgerald, who became the first man to beat the durable Afiff Belghecham in March, claims there is no news of an upcoming bout nor no new challenge on the horizon as of yet although his new found ranking and EBA champion status should entice the more recognisable opponents he craves. The Dolphil fighter admits he will have to be patient over the coming months but stressed he is training readying himself for any would be challengers. This is the first time I have heard I am number 11 in the world and its great news. It fills me with great pride. It motivates me even more to keep training and to make it further up the ladder, Fitzgerald told www.irish-boxing.com. There is nothing happening of late. Everything has gone quiet since I won the EBA title. It seems harder to get fights. My name is out there now, but nothing solid has materialised. We heard nothing more from Bronco after he called me out. Andy Lee is fighting this week maybe after that fight our teams can come to some agreement. I am eager to get that fight on. There are no further developments yet, but hopefully we can get it made. The lack of positive fight news hasnt stopped Fitzgerald from working in the gym. In fact if anything the Crumlin based puncher is working even harder. I am still down the gym and putting the effort in. I have to ensure I am ready if something does come up. I am willing to fight any middleweight out there. I was just saying last week I would love a crack at Darren Barker.

heard hickey isnt doing the euros the army wont release him from duty and phils hand still isnt healed so 64kg is up for grabs
That's very patriotic of them! Imagine if the army didn't release its show-jumpers for the RDS HORSESHOW what a stink there would be or some star hurler or footballer-it's all mouth-honour to boxing. Somebody wake up Michael Ring, he has cop-on at least. Hickey is the forgotten man at the moment, he did after all win best boxer in the championships. Moylette should be favourite here.
surley they have to let him go- he will ensure great press for them- plus he was unreal in the nationals and was boxer of the tournament
