I Am No Fan Of Floyd, But I Must Admit...

    Hes the most popular fighter in the sport. Ive never seen a guy who is inactive and hasnt fought in over a year, get so much attention from fans and the media. Even the build up to Leonard-Hagler didnt get anywhere near as much hype even though Leonard ring return was talked about a lot in boxing circles. I do think that a lot of the popularity of Mayweather and Pacquiao is because of the internet, which obviously wasnt around in the golden age of boxing. But love him or hate him, Floyd has managed to keep himself popular, even though he is at a similar point in his career that Oscar was going into his fight with Floyd. Floyd is a part time fighter, Manny is a full time fighter and best active fighter in the sport, but Floyd has accomplished in not fighting what Manny has accomplished by staying active.

    Why was he on the news anyway?

    It ISN'T about how he beats his opponents.
    It ISN'T about how he is dominating the sport.
    It ISN'T about how good he is.

    His name is thrown in there because of Pacquiao.
    His name is thrown in there because of his legal issues.
    His name is thrown in there because he hits his girl
    threatens his kid
    security guards
    racist slurs.

    He is popular, not the kind of popularity Pacquiao has, but yeah, he is popular.

    In all boxing outlets the return of Floyd is always a hot topic. Floyd vs the elite is always news in boxing circles and somewhat in mainstream media circles as well.

    Make a poll (even outside ESB) and ask who is the most popular boxer in the world today. I assure you, Floyd will eat dust and will be nowhere near Pacquiao. :good

    be honest, the reason people are talking about him is because they want to see the Pac fight, which would be one of the biggest fights of all-time, certainly non-heavyweight. If Pac didn't exist or never moved up who would give two shits about Floyd Mayweather coming back other than his fans?

    YOu are the biggest hater on the face on the earth, I would be lying if I say Manny isnt a great fight but u would be lying if you say Floyd isnt.
