First of all, I was a big Arthur Abraham Fan, never missed one of his fights that were broadcasted. He really was a force, his power absolutely horrible. I remember when he fought khoren gevor, i was unable to move in front of my tv. My girlfriend was crying "is he dead?" as this vicious punch nearly took his head of. And for a moment i couldn' answer her question... Sure, his style is ugly but it worked very well for him. Of course, he never fought the real big names but he was a joy to watch. Its a pity that he never had the opportunity to knock out sturm... I think wards trainer was right. His management messed up everything. They told him to move up in weight, and that he is able to take his dominance to the next devision. They were as wrong as they could be. He is a nice and simple guy, believing this crap was a bad mistake. This three losses destroyed his reputation even in germany. All I can say its a shame. Sauerland and Wegner should apologize to AA and his fans. AA was a nervous wreck when he fought ward, i think he knew he would loose. A few times you saw what this man could be able to do, not nice but effective. I had the feeling that it was all gone, and i felt more than sad, even after turning the tv off at the end of round seven. I wish him all he best, but I think he should call it a day. Nevertheless he earned my respect like every professional fighter getting in the ring.
He should call it a day? Wtf is with people saying fighters should 'call it a day' after a couple of losses? Losses happen. He lost to the best of the best. There's still some big fights for him.
Maybe he cannot make 160 anymore. After the Jermain Taylor Ko most people thought he was a unstoppable force. How wrong they were.
WTF! w/ the thread title? Anyway losing the way he did does not constitute a retirement. (When he begins to get KTFO, Then we can go there) Until then, On to the next one.
Ban this c*cksucker, dont say someone is dead when they are not, disgraceful from you. His career at super middle is over, but at middle, theres plenty left for him,he could get title shots v any other camp who isnt martinez.
I mean, his struggled to make weight even before the first mianda fight. in the german newspapers he often complained about this and that he wants to move up in weight. I think loosing three fights in a row, and in such a clear fashion took his heart. He wont manage to go down in weight again, and like miranda he likely will be a gatekeeper and test for the young fighters. I hate to think about it, cause like I said i was ( and still am!) a huge fan.
I always thought the guy was somewhat overrated. For some reason people fall in love with punchers and tend to overrate the hell outta them. What they fail to realize is that when you step up to the elite your power isn't going to bother everyone like it did against sub par fighters he was used to fighting. You have to have actual skill to fall back on and that's what AA lacks he relies too much on loading up instead of boxing.
I don't think AA can make 160 anymore. He's a big man. Just look at his legs and shoulders. The man they called "The Camden Buzz Saw" was only 5' 5". Quawi held world titles at light heavyweight and cruiserweight. He even had a modicum of success at heavyweight. I do not buy the "Arthur is too small for 168" story. Don't buy it at all. Abraham is not too small. He's just not very good at the style he adopted, and used his whole career. He needs to drop that **** like the bad habit it is. He should make an exhaustive study of fighters like Marciano, Frazier, and the afore mentioned Dwight Braxton. With the power Arthur has, if he would learn to relax, get small, duck, bob and weave, and apply constant pressure behind a sharp jab and a quick 3-2, he would be DEADLY. It's not his size that is holding him back. It's his stubborness and unwillingness to change!
wtf...he has lost to nothing but the best out there.....i would still love to see him in there with fighters like pavlik, librado, robert garcia maybe at middleweight, lemiux and many more that will make an exciting ass fight.....
