Rank these 1980s heavyweights in order

Can't see that at all.

I doubt if any version of Holy from the eighties would have a prayer against eighties Mike Tyson.

Or eighties Holmes.

 

My top 6 would be

Holmes
Tyson
Witherpsoon
Spinks
Thomas
Tucker

After that is very close for several guys.

Biggs, Snipes and Damiani would be last.

Holyfield - His best work was in the 1990's, and should not be listed in the 1980's

Alot of these guys could be interchangeable especially the lower 15-22. Hard to say how Holyfield the heavy of the 80s would do at his best in the 80's against these guys, but I still rank him pretty highly. I could see him getting beat by some of the other top ten guys, maybe Tucker or Tubbs in the 80's.

Tuckers being ranked pretty high here....

I think Tucker could have done more than he did but he really didn't do a whole lot in the 80's. He looks real good against Tyson early but that was the thing with Tucker, he never put it together for a whole fight. He made Douglas quit and won a couple rounds against Tyson but I'm not sure if I'd even put him above Buster (Tyson-Douglas occured in Feb. of 90...might give him credit for that win anyway because it was so close and a fight between two 80's heavyweights.)

Bruno beat no one good in the 80's and was knocked out by 3 guys on this list so I think ranking him anywhere above 20 is a little silly.

 

Name one then

 

Tucker was pretty consistent against comparable opposition that Douglas was not against, plus he beat Douglas in a fairly close fight. There in lies the intangible that I think separates the two and its a big one. Both were comparable fighters but Douglas not as mentally tough. Losing to Ferguson and White, I think drops Douglas down in the rankings as well.
I think some of the ranking on Tucker is speculation, because he didnt fight a lot of those guys, but he had some skills that were pretty apparent in his fights. Tucker was a bit of a different fighter in the 90's as well. Heavier less mobile.

 

Maybe with Bruno, but I think he was a better fighter overall than Smith.

Bottom line.

Tucker was the total package physically and from a technical perspective but he never put it together.
