Could Joe Calzaghe even make it the distance with a prime Roy Jones?

Roy failed to knock out lesser fighters than calzaghe in his prime. Telesco, Johnson, del Valle. Not to mention an ancient mike mccallum.

Power is usually the last thing a fighter loses.

Calzaghe was down 4 times in his career, all flash knockdowns. He recovered pretty damn well. The Jones knockdown did look the most impressive of the lot, but again Calzaghe got up immediately. Calz didnt have a single case of "chicken legs" his entire career.

"Could" just makes it sound like a typical hitting on Calzaghe thread. "Would" would be fairer.

Could he - yes 100%. Worse people did.

Would he -I think best performance vs best performance RJJ wins more than he loses (although it's not clear and I don't think RJJ looks good vs Calzaghe). However, a good % of those wins are the over distance so yes.

Watch this, and think prime Calzaghe, which means those punches shatter the brittle egg shell that is called a jaw of RJJ:rofl:rofl:rofl:deal

Lesser fighters than Calzaghe went the distance with prime RJJ. So in theory, yes. I think Calzaghe going the distance is a marginally more likely option than him being stopped.

He lasts the distance and loses an 8-4 type decision with some close rounds.

The guys who usually lasted 12 rounds against a prime Jones were guys who didn't go after him and weren't aggressive. Show me one guy who went after Jones in his prime and lasted the distance. No chance. Jones wasn't a killer so he was content with winning a UD.

I can almost see Jones hurting Calzaghe numerous times with perfectly timed counter shots. Joe's aggression would be his undoing. Calzaghe was good but Jones' hand speed and reflexes were off the charts.

I didn't have much time for Calzaghe when he was fighting, and have even less since the Coke scandal, but give the man his due.
A way past his best, ageing, unmotivated, and out for an easy pay day version of Calzaghe, made a way past his best Jones look like a punch bag.Too fast, too clever, too fit.
To dismiss Calzaghes chance's,and say Jones would emabarrass him, shows how very little knowledge of the fight game some people have.Any version of Calzaghe would have gone the distance with Jones.
Calzaghe was never easy on the eye style wise, but he always found a way to win.

Who hurt him the most out of all the KD's just curious ..I remember the Byron Mitchell KD that pretty much lit a fire under Joe's ass and he came storming back ..

Never understood why people claim Calzaghe's chin was not great, he was way more offensively minded than other iron chinned guys like Hopkins and Toney and thus is why he got caught with bigger, cleaner punches at times, watch Calzaghe against Kessler in round four if you need any evidence, you will never see Toney or Hopkins getting caught by those kind of uppercuts.:good

He maybe could have made it the distance, but I doubt it.

Calzaghe is not one to run away, his style is offensive and aggressive. I feel like Roy would catch Joe with something big, Joe would get up ... then get stopped

Really earning the name Joe Calslappy. Still, I think he could last the distance with RJJ, though a stoppage wouldn't shock me at all either.
