Williams, floyd, and machen stood up to him. so thats a flawed argument, not that simple.

And Liston was past his prime, poorly conditioned, and just not himself.
Plus this was only one fight. Against one of the GOATs.
the second fight is just suspicious as a whole. It's not fair to judge Liston off these two fights.

Classic was doing so good not overrating this quitter. And now, unforgiven does the unforgivable and props Liston back from the dead. Isn't he someone who doesn't even rate Liston in his top 10? Why the change in heart, or is he just separating H2H and legacy?

I'd make Ali and Tyson favorites.

I'd still probably pick Lewis, Foreman, Holyfield, and that short Italian midget. What's his name?

I'm not talking about legacy or greatness or resume or any of that stuff.
(And I can think of several fighters who COULD beat Liston, IMO. And a few who'd be 50-50 maybe)

But I'm just asking the straight up question : If you knew Liston was at his absolute prime and you had to find guys who you'd expect to beat him, or favour better than 50-50, who are those guys ?

Myself, as many faults as I can find with Liston, or reasons as to why his greatness is overrated etc ...... I don't think I'd favour anyone over an absolute PRIME Liston !

Maybe that's overrating, but that's the way I feel at the moment. :good

To be honest i gave him a proper look recently outside the Ali and Patterson fights, and i definatley see him as more formidable then i used to. Everytime he hits with a ****ing thud and they crumble. Ali had the style to counter him. I dont think Holmes could keep him off or tie him up. Frazier and Marciano would be outgunned with their swarming style. Foreman is too easy to hit. Lewis is the only guy i see with the strength to hold him up coupled with the power to keep him off. And i think Tyson would beat him at his own game, who is alot faster, hits just as hard and has a better chin.

The real Sonny Liston actually died soon after the rematch with Floyd Patterson. He was sixty-three years old,and he died of natural causes. The thirty-something years that he spent waiting for his deserved title shot wasted him both as a fighter and a person.By the time he became champion,it was too late.Still great to demolish Patterson a second time, but he knew his time was coming to an end.

The grossly overweight and out of shape joker that Clay ran away from was merely a pawn of the NWO.He was planted and placed in the position of heavyweight champion to ensure victory for the young black millitant heavyweight in the hope of creating an all-out racial war in the States.

A lot of people are saying Tyson, but I just don't see it.
Tyson had those short arms, and Liston had the thudding jab. Sure Tyson could get inside the jab from time to time, but Liston was a brute and a bully on the inside too.

Does Bowe out-gut the fish? Because I see him being too comfortable fighting an awfully dangerous fight on the inside. Or do you believe he would try to jab and move against Liston, or does he simply just have the durability to get his fight game-plan executed well enough?

Ali does it....other than that no one is a sure bet.

Just watch the ****er on film outside of the Ali fights, he was a very adaptable and brutal monster who mastered just about every punch and was also difficult to tag cleanly. Ali is just a horrible style matchup for him, as he'd be for many great fighters just due to his unreal speed and timing.

Louis has a good chance obviously, and the style advantage game is on Listons side against Iron Mike. Foreman probably gets blown to smithereens. Honestly, the only times Liston ever showed real weaknesses was against movers and spoilers. The heart thing gets too overplayed.

Listons punches would be landing with ridiculous ease against Bowe, and he's no Evander Holyfield in regards to power. If Liston hits you, you're going down and staying down.
