I posted a rare interview of Joe Louis in 1950. Here is the thread. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=312350 In the interview, Joe spoke of his tax troubles and how he was fighting for the money. He mentioned a potential fight with Archie Moore. How do you think Archie would do against the 1950-51 version of Joe Louis?
archie could win this one. the 50-51 version of louis had the power but not the same ability the trap his opponents and finish them off. moore could sneak enough right hands in there to take a decision, with a knockdown on both sides.
This is a fabulous matchup. Louis was much bigger than Moore at 6'2 214lb, to Archies 5'11 180lb. Who had the better jab? Louis had the much more powerful jab, but Archie's jab was like a snake. This would be a complete jabbing fest. I think Archie was the better finisher than old Louis, but Louis still hit harder with one punch. Archie was the faster of the two with better movement. Archie was crafty and slick, but louis was very fundamentally skilled. Archie seemed to have a lot of success with 6'3 210lbers(Bob Baker, Nino Valdes) so archie might have the slight advantage here. Then again, don't ever count out Joe Louis.
Maybe Wiki has Archie's birthdate posted wrong (seems there's some dispute about the correct date): This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
Archie could have outboxed Joe down the stretch. Louis was an ageing fighter, while Moore was more like a vintage wine.
I think Moore outboxes him and wins a decision ... Louis had very slow legs at this point and he was not going to beat Moore plodding after him ..
Moore takes it and makes it look easier than Charles despite Ezzard being the better fighter at this point. Archie could handle the big jabbers better than Ezzard.
I think Moore knew the answer to this one and others , which is why he sucked the juice out of the meat instead of eating it like a man should. Archie Moore is another overrated fighter which I am surprised to see people here favor even against the bald 36 years old Louis . Charles didn't beat Louis , I watched the fight , maybe he outlanded him with something like a total 5 feeble jabs more than Louis landed throughout the entire fight. However , Louis was the aggressor and Charles avoided contact , not really a win . Moore's chin was no superior to Charles' and I think he just was not a better puncher . The difference between them was that Charles fought more bigger men or men his own size , and Moore fought smaller men .
Then how do you explain the fact Archie Moore went 22-1 with 19 knockouts against men over 200lb including top ranked contenders 6'3 210lb bob baker and nino valdes?
Anyone else think Louis has a solid shot to knock archie out if he lands something big during the fight?
