I have amended this. Do you want to kick off a list of the setanta and primetime ppvs and post is in your post number 2 on the first page?
This thread just reminds us of the utter crap they try to pass off as PPV these days compared to days gone by. I mean,FFS man Warren has actually started putting on cards without a real main event yet still asking for PPV
Ok, let's say that Bellew isnt far off the weight and he can make it safely. Main Event: Cleverly v Bellew Chief Support: Groves v Degale This is far better than a lot of recent PPVs i.e. Haye-Ruiz, Haye-Harrison, Khan Salida, Khan - Kotelnik etc......
Yeah, I thought the same, but apparently it was reported somewhere. Couldnt believe Haye-Valuev did 800k - that right there is an example of why Sky are the only place for top boxers - they hyped that fight beautifully to the casual.
Haye vs Valuev was always going to sell well because of the intrigue. Casuals aren't going to know that he was crap and deserved to lose to Holyfield in his previous fight.... they just look at 6'2'' ish Haye stood alongside that oaf and assume it'll be a massacre. Haye says he's going to win, people say ''how can he beat him.....??'' - ''when's it on?? right, I'll get some friends round and watch''. Sorted. Must admit I was asked several times how Haye could beat him and I said exactly that, Valuev wasn't that good. At least there was intrigue, the Harrison fight was just a farce from the moment it was signed until we saw the sorry twat being told ''you're **** and you know you are.....'' by a load of shortchanged spectators. Not sure what convinced the best part of a million people to watch that :-(
Haye-Valuev was a great sell alright, but I was still surprised it did as many, I thought if it would do 400k it would have been a result. But, the way that fight was hyped amplifield the interest, especially the size difference between the men. I remember speaking to a couple of casuals and they were fascinated at how Haye would approach that fight.
Hatton (I think against Ray Oliveira) was the UK leg of Williams-Klitschko Some non-Sky PPVs:- Graham Earl-Kevin Bennett Tyson-McBride W Klitschko-Byrd II Jones-Ruiz EDIT: Hamed-Calvo PPV included Tszyu vs. Ben Tackie Hamed-Barrera included Steve Roberts-Keith Mullings bill from Wembley Scott Harrison-Steve Robinson supported Lewis-Rahman I believe Harrison-Victor Santiago supported Lewis-Tyson
Why was Hatton - Castillo on Setanta, does anyone know? You'd think that SBO would have had a solid contract with him. I'm really surprised by the buyrates for David Haye, but then I was discussing Wlad-Haye with a few causals and they were disagreeing with my predicition for a lte stoppage by Wlad because, "No one thought he would beat the other giant russian guy either"
Lewis-Klitschko included Hare-Dzhuman Hatton-Collazo I think included Woods-Delisle Hatton-Mayweather included Woolcombe-Portman/Watson-Nuumbembe Hatton-Urango I believe included Witter-Morua/Daws-Morrison Hatton-Pacquaio included Williams-McDermott Hopkins-Eastman was another non-Sky PPV
Setanta had just picked up the Premier league rights and so think they offered a load of money for Hatton to raise awareness of them. It was a subscription rather than traditional PPV. Haye seems to have done a good job getting exposure on things like Soccer AM. That seems be where my casual fan friends became aware of him
I thought it was before it was a script and it was PPV? Boxers should really be getting on Soccer AM, A Question Of Sport, Paul O grady and all that jazz, it does wonders for them.
