Yeah, I know he got KTFO in like 2 minutes .... but why did it pan out that way ?

The simple answer is he got hit. And that's a sufficient explanation.
But if anyone has anything to add or speculate, feel free.

    True.
But what did Schmeling and Louis do differently ?
    What were Max's problems/mistakes ?

He was such a hero that he lost on purpose to bring down the air of Nazi sporting supremacy, and Joe Louis simply helped it happen as quickly as possible. What a man- he was willing to take a beating himself to stick it to the cause people associated him with. That's why I've got his face tattooed across my stomach, right beneath the one that says "Thug Life".

Simple. He was past his prime and folded. Too much pressure. Getting hated so much for something he wasn´t while all the hopes of his homecountry were on him for something he wasn´t. I think outside of Jack Johnson against Jeffries no other fighter in history had so much mental pressure in him. He folded. Johnson didn´t.

Oh, and of course having the greatest puncher in history, or at least of the hw division, who was thirsty for revenge, in the opposite corner didn´t help much either.

He was up against the greatest heavyweight of all time on the best night of his career.

Said heavyweight had an axe to grind, had learned from his mistakes, and studied Schmeling meticulously.

This time Joe Louis zee something.

As I recall, he hardly threw a punch.
    An Audley-like performance.
    Why?

Some saying he lost on purpose?

In spite of what some claim, seems he was no Nazi. Even risked his own neck to harbor some people facing extermination in his flat. Some saying he lost on purpose, bacause he didn't care fo rhis regime?

Has anyone filmed his answer to this query?
    He died not long ago,

Which remnds me, has anyone here seen the German film, is it called Max?

I recall that Maske, the boxer, was playing Schmelling.

Anyone seen it, or it available anywhere now?

It´s an waweful movie made by the aweful Uwe Boll. The boxing scenes are pretty good though since all of the boxers there are played by boxers.
