Not that i wanna see him back or anything. But was just wondering what the cretin is up to now, having just heard him mentioned.
Forgive me for putting it in the classic, but i will probably get better answers.
Is he still trying to be black?

Even a chaotic sport like boxing knows Newman is a radioactive character. Trouble finds him, because he surrounds himself with fringe political groups and bad characters.

    I thought Newman seemed okay.
He didn't quite understand that he couldn't take on the whole boxing establishment and hope to win, but some of his intentions seemed decent enough.
He may have been a whacko, but better than a racketeer like Don King and the likes of Jose Sulaiman.

Rock Newman still has a promotional company called Gibralter Promotions. I dont think he is involved in boxing anymore though. He was advising Mike Tyson around the Lewis fight. Newman is a white guy even though he went to Howard University and only seems to be associated with black people.

He slithered back under a rock somewhere or in a storm drain where he belongs.

He's one of the most nasty, racist, reprehensible characters boxing has ever seen..and a second rate player too. I would think he had a great deal to do with engineering that classy move of Bowe's to throw a belt in the garbage can.

Explain what you mean a nasty, racist, reprehensible character ?

I must have missed all that.

Yes, you sure did miss it. He had a vindictive, nasty, racist mentality and was as much an agitator in that riot that broke out after the Golota fight as anybody...even if he didn't toss a chair or a bottle of beer in the ring. Who do you think it was who motivated Bowe to ditch in such a low class way...in a garbage can...a belt that any other fighter struggling in the game of boxing would have been honored to have? Just read any interviews you can find that he did, or dig up anything else you can as to his "character"...he was a bitter half black, half white racist scum bag, that's all.

Well, I doubt he was as bad as crooks like Don King and Jose Sulaiman, two real scum bags, who were the real motivation behind him getting Bowe to pull that silly stunt.

The WBC belts looked like plastic **** anyway, to be fair.

Newman hated the WBC and the boxing establishment and thought he could win a war with them. He was a bit of a *****, but I don't think he's bad by boxing's standards.
As for his racism, I know nothing about that.
I hear he did a lot for charitable causes, so he cannot be all bad.

He also choked Elijah Tillery while Bowe assaulted him on the ropes. Newman is 100% responsible for Bowe trashing his belt, but he also bucked the big promotional two, and did things his way. He would go into meetings screaming and yelling but he did make him and Bowe a lot of money, money that HBO never intended on offering Bowe.

Was Tillery the guy whom Rock Newman grabbed from behind when Tillery had his back on the ropes and Tillery fell back into the crowd? That was unforgivable. Rock Newman shouldn't have been allowed back in a boxing arena after that.

If that was his goal he hurt Bowe rather than helped him. Bowe never fought Lennox or Foreman and is not seen as an ATG or even a HOF as far as I can see. What exactly did he do for Bowe? Bowe had big fights on the horizon which never materialized. At the time Lennox was seen as up and coming and Bowe as better. As it turned out, Lennox has been much greater and has a great resume and career and he fought them all Holyfield, Tyson, etc..

I'm going to watch the Bowe-Tillery fights again.
I seem to remember Tillery kicking Bowe at one point, and getting DQ'd. Perhaps that was just before or after Newman had strangled him.

It seems to be Bowe who started it all with a blatant after-the-bell shot ..... then Tillery kicked ..... than chaos ensues ..... and Newman drags Tillery over the ropes.

    Tillery ended up being DQ'd.

Bowe got another favourable decision like that when his fight with Mathis Jr was called a No-Contest, when he should have been Dq'd for landing a punch on a decked Buster.
