Hatton was a legitimate lineal champ @140, he'd beaten a few notables, and he was ranked amongst the P4P elite, so there are these factors to consider when judging. Also, FMJ fought the "undefeated" version of Hatton, which is obviously a plus, despite it being at 147 where Hatton had actually just lost to Collazo (my opinion). Whereas Manny fought a slighly diminished Hatton, but at his best weight, and the manner of the victory was pretty stunning.

I think both those victories are pretty close to great, considering those facts. I guess there is a big difference between a "great win" and a win over a great fighter...

 

Didn't Floyd beat Hatton *first*?

Oscar hand picked a payday as he almost always does, a mayweather rematch did not take place he sought out the next big fight that can make him some cash before he retires.

Manny had enough negotiating power to demand that weight, he had enough to demand ring size..... Oscar made most of the money no doubt, but again thats the only reason he took the fight

 

I don't see how fighting at 147 made a difference to Hatton against Mayweather since Floyd was a small welterweight anyway, unless he was bloated at that weight which we know wasn't the case.

 

He did and he was criticized for it, most were calling him a maricon for picking on a lightweight instead of fighting Margarito but then he got his ass whooped by Pac and all of that was forgotten.

 

Trying to use the Hatton fight, of all fights, as a means to argue Pacquiao's status as P4P #1 above Floyd just shows how biased and clueless you are. The whole notion is COMPLETELY rediculous.

First and foremost, Floyd handed Hatton his *first* defeat.

Second, the argument that Pacquiao fought Hatton "at his best weight" is nonsensical. EVERYONE knew how Hatton liked to ballon up between fights. This is probably the reason why he came up to 147 in the first place. He was _obviously_ having problems making 140 even as far back as 2006/2007. And besides ALL of that, Floyd was coming up from 130. The weight argument is a steaming PILE. Floyd fought the better version of Hatton. Period, end of story.

And did I mention that Hatton was a titlist @ 147?

 

Exactly.

I can understand people saying Hatton wouldn't be as good at 147 because there were opponents fighting in that division that would balloon up a lot bigger than him and he wouldn't be able to bully them in the ring like he could junior welterweights, however this doesn't apply to Mayweather as he was a small welterweight at the time anyway that was coming in for welterweight fights weighing less than Hatton was for fights at 140.
