He let his ego get the better of him.

He allowed DeGale to dicate what would happen and pressure him into having a bet for the purse money.

To maintain social front - Groves was pressured into it.

This to me - gives Degale a victory there - he has pressured Groves into doing something foolish.

Whoever loses - dont get paid.

But its the fact that DeGale dicatored what would happen that shows Groves as foolish.

Groves showing off trying to hard to impress the watcing world.

Groves should have reject any silly agreement and mind games that DeGale offered him.

You could tell Adam Booth was thinking - "George you ****ing idiot what have you gone and agreed to that for ?????????" :-(

No matter what - no matter how confident you are - you dont stick your whole biggest purse of your career on some egotistcal bet.

    What a foolish boy. :-(

I doubt it will actually happen but your right. Groves allowed himself to easily be manipulated. I thought when they were on ringside he allowed himself to lose all sense of control as well. De Gale isnt the sharpest tool in the box but somehow groves still manages to come off worst in back and forth exhanges.

Groves made a bet to DeGale on ringside last month and DeGale wouldn't have it.

Mind games won't win or lose this fight. DeGale wins purely on ability.

But you're right, neither would pay up.

    :deal

It still showed weakness on Groves' side.
He should have told him the stfu and see you in the ring dickhead.

    I hope it dont.

Cos - I dont mind who wins - for different reasons - but I actually want to see both guys get paid -

Its foolish to risk losing a fight - and your money - for the sake of ego.

When Bernard Hopkins fought Felix Trinidad he was paid $2-3 million for the fight.

He was also paid $100,000 to wear a tatoo of a casino on his back for the fight.

He was so confident - he put that $100,000 on himself to win at odds of 3/1 and got a $400,000 return.

    Thats real confidence.

But not even he was foolish enough to bet his fight purse. :nono

Booth has already said it wont happen as the board wont let it. Was never going to, just publicity.

Good point. And booth should've stepped in and saved face and also used it as an opportunity to have a go at warren and ensure he kept the fight fair by making sure referee doesn't have a big say in the outcome.

I've noticed that this was on the yahoo page. Bet won't stick but a good way to hype a fight!
